Today I traded in Taurus .41 mag for a downpayment on an SR1911. I have yet to see an SR1911 let alone hold one but I have made up my mind.I don't yet know what it will cost since it is a special order and they have never handled one. Looking forward to determining what it cost. LOL.

I'm surprised they didn't give you a receipt when you made the trade. I hear the ruger 1911 are sweet though. I'm sure you'll like it.

I do have have a receipt that reflects the price of the trade value, there's just no reference to the cost of the purchase. They told me I'd be the first on as yet unmade list. I convinced myself I was seeing prices start to creep up. My hope is that I'll save a few bucks buying now.

I have one ordered too. I was going to trade my XD45 but I wound up selling it for more than it would have brought in a trade. I also haven't seen or held one in person. Hoping it was a good buy. But from Ruger, it should be a good gun.

Congrats. How long did they say for it to arrive? I handled one at the NRA Convention and it seemed pretty good. Love to hear how it shoots and handles.

held one at the local gunshow yesterday. Felt solid and had all the textile and visual appeal that we've come to love about a good 1911. i want one.

Looking foward to reading some of your reviews of the Ruger. I'm in the market for a 1911 soon, hope it works out for you!

There was no discussion about when it would arrive. I'm guessing it will be a while since they've never handled one before. I'll need a few weeks to come up with the balance anyway. I normally wouldn't be so trusting but it's Collector's Firearms here in Houston I figure they are as competitive as anybody. I look at it as a "collectable shooter" warts and all since it's Ruger's first.

Eh, likely not. For new production guns the price always creeps up at introduction due to demand, then sinks back down as all the "early adopters" get theirs and they start to build up some inventory.

Still, it's nice to get new toys, and the Ruger SR1911 certainly looks be be a good one. I'm personally hoping the demand calms down before the end of the year, but we'll see.

The shop should have been able to give you more info than that since the Ruger 1911s have been out there and available for weeks now. At the very least you should have gotten a price, they could charge you anything they want when the gun comes in and you wont have a a leg to stand on.

At last...

Finally took receipt of my fresh from the factory Ruger 1SR911. I've field stripped 4 times. I'm still getting used to handling it. Is there any preparation I need to do prior to the first trip to the range?

Be sure to let us know how it shoots! And please insert some pics. All the lgs's and major retailers are still on back-order here... Nobody's seen hide nor hair of the SR 1911.

Congrats! Based on reviews, you are lucky to have one in your hands.

Definitely keep us posted with range report and pics.

One happy camper...

I must admit that my only other hand gun experience was an AMT.380 with which I wasn't very accurate. My only experience prior to this range trip with my new SR1911 was reading the manual and several instances of field stripping it. I didn't see the first three rounds hit the target and i was starting to panic. Closer inspection revealed they were all in the black. I was shooting groups at 7 yards 1/3 the size of what I was shooting with the .380 at 5 yards. 50 rounds with the .380 would have my hand cramping with it's 7 pound pull. I had no trouble managing the recoil of the 1911 and between the inertia of the weapon and the substantially lighter trigger pull, I was shooting tighter groups with no hand strain. Naturally I didn't shoot as well at 15 yards. I might not kill him but surely I could change his mind. I'm cursed by living 10 minutes from an indoor range that is open until 10:00 PM 7 days a week. I may need a second job to purchase ammo. It'll take me a while to become truly comfortable the 1911 and carrying concealed will be a challenge, but I'm sold. The SR1911 is the right gun for me

If you reload, you can bring the cost of shooting down quite a bit.

I can average reloading 50 rounds of lead 45ACP down to about $7.
