Considering a 10mm,thoughts?

10mm does just fine as a hunting cartridge if you are comfortable shooting it accurately over the ranges you will be hunting. I took two nice does last year with my 10mm. For hunting handguns I tend to go with bullets heavy for caliber. I hand loaded Hornady 200gr XTP going 1250fps. All the bullet pass clear through the deer even the one I shot with a high shoulder shot passing through one shoulder blade and her spine. The were fairly good size does both weight roughly 130lbs live weight.

I like the S&W 1076 and 1006. Both are incredibly strong. I see a few on the net and the prices do not seem that high. I had a Colt Match 10 that I sold a while back. Somebody wanted it more than I. Nice pistol though. Colt made only 400 of them. Mabey that's why.

How's parts availability for them? Any idea?

I've been shooting a Colt Delta Elite since the 90's. I shoot it often. I've never had a problem with it. It's probably had about 2500 rounds through it. I don't find the recoil to be any more than a 357. I've will admit I have been eyeballing the new Ruger. I would stick with a steel framed gun myself, but that's just my humble opinion.

I have no clue about parts for the Smiths. They seem to be "Bull Strong". If FBI adopted them for a while I think parts would not be a problem. Somebody on here will know.

I have a glock 20 and a kimber TLE II and I like them both. My glocks shoot well even though they are souless beasts... but there in lies their beauty.. for what I have paid for the glocks- most were acquired used CHEAP... I have a hard time wanting to put the wear on my smith n ruger revolvers that used to do woods duty- and the fact that the gun and a couple extra mags gives decent firepower make better sense. The kimber may end up in serious CCW rotation... I like the round in both glock n 1911

I've got three of the old Gen 3 Smith 1000 series tens. And a new SIG 220 DA/SA model. Been fooling around with the tens from the start ,when the only one available was the BREN ten. With Expen$ive Norma ammo. Even have quite a bit of trigger time behind the FBI MP-5's in ten mm.

A very useful cartridge. Can be loaded down to .40 S&W levels, the Fed, American eagle 180 gr IS basically .40 S&W ammo. Loaded quite low.
Or go up to Buffalo Bore/Double Tap ballistics. Light weight slugs all the way up to 200-220 gr CAST.

IMHO the ten is similar to the .41/.44 mag, .45 Colt, .44 Special in that it's at it's most useful BEST when handloaded. So many more options, versus factory ammo.

I'm not a Glock fan but the G20 (hopefully I have the right model #) IS one of the few G's I'd ever own. Talk about hi cap...big bore power!

Shot the Delta's over the years, like the .40 in a BHP platform....NOT a fan. To me the 1911 shines in .45 acp and the BHP is and always will be best as a nine. I could live with a 1911 in ten, but prefer the old 1076,1006 etc, or the new SIG 220.

Look at the EAA offerings too.

Regarding the Smith M-1006, 1076, etc. As an old Gen 3 S&W Armorer, we were the "Maytag Repairman" of 1970's TV commercial fame. The 3rd Gen Smiths are built like TANKS, or Maytags. We simply had FEW issues, even with hi rd count guns. Keep fresh springs in them (AVAILABLE) and properly lubed...and they go ON and ON. The tens are no exception.

ONLY issue with the 1000 series right now is magazines. NO one is building them. so what is out there.....IS all there may ever be. One can build ten mm mags from the Smith .45 mag bodies, but the baseplates, followers etc...ARE drying up. Midway DOES STILL show some of those parts though. Just got some followers a few weeks back.

I've seen new in wrap 1000 series mags go for $120 and that was recently too. I bought a few more for eighty a pop in the Fall and felt good about it.

Major parts ARE tough to find....I doubt Smith has much of anything left to support the tens .
