First gun buyer. Need help deciding

Update. I couldn't resist buying the Sig SP2022. It was on sale at my local turners for 399 that ended today. The guy told me they don't come with night sights, but the usual line dot sight. Does anyone know the difference besides the sights?

Nice choice with the SP2022. I have one in 9mm and it's definitely an often underrated and overlooked Sig.
The Sig factory night sights (which some SP2022's did come with) will be of the 3-dot variety: one dot on the front sight, two on the back. The standard contrast sights will be a front dot and rear post. You can have aftermarket night sights installed if you like as well.

The night sights would have added another ~$100 and dim over time (probably before you ever have a need for them). $399 is within $5 of budsgunshop pricing, so you did good on the price, too.

Unknown when I can get a range report. They didnt have any in stock so I had to put a deposit down. Guy said could take up to 2 months to recieve them. If they dont get them in within 3 weeks, Im gonna put my deposit towards the FNP 9. Only place that actually has them in stock.

First gun? Buy the cheapest reliable gun you can and then spend the rest of your money on lots and lots of ammunition. Then get a membership to your local range or gun club and learn to shoot. New shooters have a bit too much of a tendency to focus on the gun instead of the person who's planning on operating it.

put the sig p226 on lay-a-way. you will get THE gun you want, and when there is a real incentive, you would be suprised how many little things you can do without! it will not take a lot of time before you have it paid for, and in your hands. the key is, everytime you get a little extra cash, take it down and plop it on the gun. if they money is in your wallet, it will be gone in no time! and the gun will be still setting on the shelf.

Too late the OP purchased a SP2022 which IMHO is every bit as good as the P226. I own both.

My first pistol I bought (not shot) back in '01 was a Sig p226 in 9mm and I still have it and love it. I love the feel, I love the accuracy, I love how it looks.
They are a great gun. Never had a problem with mine either.

Shoot enough and you'll have no need for a speedloader;-). Next is taking enough time for each shot to count rather than counting each shot and not taking enough time. That's why many of us started with, and still own single action revolvers.
