So I finally decided which handgun I am going to get for my first one. I went last night to the gun shop and put 25% down to hold it on the CZ-SP01 with night sites. I just moved to TN so I dont have a state ID yet. Once I get that, which should be this week, I'm going to pick it up. I'm sure you all can understand how excited I am. So just a couple questions for the CZ owners on the forum. Which ammo would work best in the gun for target practice at the range? And also what kind of ammo wuld be best as a self defense round? I am also looking for a nice holster for the SP-01 also. The plastic one it comes with is decent but I'd like something a little better. Thanks!

I've had three other CZs- the 75B, PCR, and RAMI.

All three ate whatever I fed it without problem. To answer your first question, whichever ammo is cheapest would be the best for range use. Blazers from Academy probably.

The CZ doesn't have a rep for being ammo picky, so feed it whatever is easiest on your bank account.

I have an SP01 Tactical and love it. It's my favorite handgun to shoot.

Be warned that the springs in the SP01 guns are weighted for the HOT rounds used by the Czech military and state police. Standard 9mm ammo (WWB, etc.) may not have enough power to cycle the slide and you may have jamming problems. Simply replace the 22lb stock recoil spring with a 16lb spring and it will work fine.

I have a number of CZ pistols (careful, you may also find them addicting!)

Ha, I dont even have mine yet and I have the P-01 picked out as my concealed carry when I get my permit. I have heard nothing but good things about them and love the way they feel in my hand compared to others. I like the heft the steel frames have to them. It doesnt hurt that they pretty nice looking too.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I didnt read anything about it before. I'm a newbie so what would be the average cost to have someone replace the spring?

You can do it yourself, replacing the recoil spring only takes a quick field strip.

A new recoil spring from Wolff (www.gunsprings.com) will run you about 10 or 12 bucks shipped (I forget).

I posted a couple of range reports on two different CZ SP-01s I've owned (I only own the one now), if you'd like more info.

Enjoy the new gun!

For a very good conceal carry horsehide leather holster, take a look ar c-rusty sherrick holsters. I got one fot my PCR and am very happy. It's the high ride holster which hugs the body so as not to print. Check it out.
Congrats on your choice, it's a great product. The more you practice with it, the smoother the trigger. My practice ammo is CC Blazer and I get it by the case from Natchez Supply. About $6.00 a box of 50.

I've shot the Blazers

The aluminum cases worked fine in my CZs. However, some have reported issues with the blazers in CZs.

S&B is good stuff
GECO is good stuff
Winchester White Box is good stuff
Federal Independence was good
Magtech was good
Blazer al/brass has been good
Never had a problem with Wolf

Do not buy any of the American brand ammo!!!!
