Shot the first IDPA match today under the new rules.
Everyone decided to ignore the new holster rules for now.
Out of 27 shooters, there were 23 illegal holsters.
Our club will drop its IDPA sanction if the rules are not changed.
btw: I was 2nd overall, and top SSP, and all my gear was 100% legal ("Rafter S" OWB and mag holder, Walther P99 9mm). So much for the now-illegal gear being an advantage.
pssst I've got a secret for you..... it aint the gear that wins matches.

re: 23/27

That would be an interesting statistic to track in the coming weeks as folks participate in their first "new rule book events". Actually, three stats I'd love to be able to track in the coming weeks:

1) Equipment compliance impact by competitor (whether firearm or other equipment e.g. holster, pouch, etc.)
2) # of clubs who have or are considering going non-sanctioned based on these changes
3) # of competitors who have actually been penalized for using previously approved gear under the new rule book provisions.

Let's break down my last performance.
There were 6 stages.
There was a 4.61 sec. difference between me and the top shooter.
I was 100% legal in gear, his kydex holster is now considered illegal.
Yet I had a total brainfart on one stage and had 5 sec. in penalties.
It was a "El Presidente" that I should have easily shot clean in the 9.41 that I did it in, yet with penalties it was a 14.41, I have shot clean "El Pres's" in the 9 sec. range consistantly for months.
Now, you tell me, can the 3/4 sec. per stage time difference be accounted for in draw times, or was it my brainfart that killed me?
btw: my time to first shot on the "El Pres" was less than 2 sec.
I'm no rocket scientist, but I think the 5 sec. penalty was my downfall, since I don't shoot with anyone who can do a 1.25 sec. turn/draw/shoot on the "El Pres".

Because you and the #2 have differing skill levels, that type of comparison really doesn't mean anything.

What you want to measure is your performance on the different equpment platforms. Not that it will really lead to any conclusions...my draw is faster out of my sooperhooper than my VMII. But that was obvious before clocking it.

And it doesn't really matter anyway...

My point was that in the grand scheme of things, the equipment used is much less of a factor than making the hits and avoiding brainfarts.

The difference in times between my fastest holster and my slowest holster, doesn't add up to 3/4 sec. I can do 1.45 sec. "A" hit @ 7 yards with my Blade-Tech OWB (fastest), and 1.75 sec. with my Rafter S leather IWB (slowest). That would give me a grand total of 1.8 sec. over six stages of a match.

You'll get no argument from me on that point. Small advances in competency will far outweigh the small edges you get from equipment.
