Hello all. Having just recently purchased a new Beretta 92FS Compact M9a1 Inox a couple days I thought I would do a quick and dirty post about my first impressions. The gun itself has an absolutely beautiful stainless fit and finish to it as all Inox's do. Having owned a full size M9a1 it is basically the same gun but in a more "compact" package but if you've ever held one you know it's really not all that compact. The grips are fat just as the full size versions are but I did notice my trigger finger is closer with compact version as with the full size I had an issue reaching the trigger on DA using a correct grip while with the 92 compact the distance is about perfect in DA and I can handle that long, tough first trigger pull without a problem. It is DA/SA just as the standard full size versions are. It holds 13 rounds in the mag as opposed to 15 or 17 in the full size (I can't remember off hand how many rds my full M9a1 mags used to hold) and the mags have a small pinky rest at the bottom which just barely cover my pinky. I have small to medium sized hands so those with large hands may have trouble getting a full grip on the gun and I haven't seen any larger aftermarket pinky rests out there but I haven't shopped around for them either. The biggest difference between the 92fs m9a1 compact Inox and the full size version were the 3 dot sights painted red as opposed to the standard white. This isn't an issue for me but it will take some getting used to. The only modification I am thinking about making to the gun are the grips. The glossy, hard plastic factory grips can't get pretty slick if your hands get a little sweaty or if you get any oil residue on your hands...I think some rubber hogue grips or the sharp looking walnut grips would do the trick. The grip also aggressive checkering on the backstrap as does the full size model.
At the range today I ran 50rds of standard American Eagle 115 grain 9mm Luger through it. Absolutely no problems and it was a pleasure to shoot. It had hardly any recoil and the trigger felt very smooth although as with any DA/SA pistol the first trigger pull takes some practice. The gun was more accurate than me and the few mags I shot were right down the pipe although the last mag I started flinching left and that may have been due to a change in my grip that I attempted so it definetly wasn't the gun's fault. All in all I absolutely love the gun and it is a great replacement for the full size I had to regrettably sell a couple of months ago. At this point I'd be willing to bet that I'm gonna enjoy this gun more than the full size version.
