Sounds like you mean to say "HSM."

This ammo has known issues.

The case had stretched to the breaking point already in a machine-gun or something, and was just waiting to crack when you fired it again.

HSM was my second choice, Ultramax was my first guess as to the manufacturer of the ammo. Both remanufacture ammo from LC brass which more than likely comes from machinegun ranges. Black Hills does too with their remanufacured ammo, but I'm not sure if they buy better brass to start with as this doesn't seem to be a probablem often attributed to them.

That extractor is definitely on my 'next to get list'.

A new bronze bore brush on a cleaning rod yanks them out just fine

RCModel's advice is the best advice. I purchased a case extractor in 30-06. Finally got to use it when I had a case seperation in a match Garand. I dropped that extractor in the chamber and let the bolt down, so the extractor would snap over the base.

Well the case extractor went really far up into the throat of my match barrel. The front edge, the edge that is supposed to catch on the case mouth, just ripped a sliver of steel out of the lands. My nice new match barrel, with this chunk of metal missing. :(

I am never using a case extractor again. A bristle brush on the end of a cleaning rod is much nicer to the barrel, and has worked every time for me.

PS. If you reload, set up your dies with a cartridge headspace gage. That way you are less likely to oversize your cases, which will lead to case head separations. Or undersizing your cases, which will lead to failure to go into battery. Both conditions are a bother in a gas gun.

It was HSM reloads I got from the local Army surplus. $15 for 50 rounds seemed like a good deal, but I'm done with reload ammo now. Some day down the road I'd like to get into reloading my own rounds, but I need more research and funds to get setup. I'm going to try the brush and cleaning rod, but will keep my fingers crossed that it wont happen any time soon ;)

Had an '06 do the exact same thing with some old Mil Spec. brass in a friends M77 Ruger. Was not a good time :(

Ok once and for all, The Ak and its rd is more dependble in any condition. I am an expert with the M16 and all it's wacky configurations, I can hit a nat at 400m with Iron sights, I would not own one, 223 cost alot, I like varmit hunting with a 10/22 more fun, My AK is a deer killer coyote killer .... I would always pick the AK

If you are going to use big words to make a point or call someone out, you might want to make sure you at least spell them correctly. :neener:

SEQUITUR not sequiter

I'm just sayin...

Edited: Atta boy cracked, even though I am not the spelling police, I couldn't help myself seeing how you were taking a shot yourself. Cheers. :)
