First lever gun looks like a "youth gun"

Lately I've been looking at lever guns to add something different to my collection. I already had a bunch of .44 Mag ammo so I settled for a Rossi R92 carbine due to a lot of favorable reviews, availability and price. Haven't taken it out to shoot yet (just picked it up yesterday), but when I first opened the box I was a little taken aback by the size! It had a 16" barrel as ordered but the stock and lever loop are so small it looks like a "Youth Gun". Feels like one too. Now I'm not real tall (6' 1") but when shouldered the hammer looks like it's almost close enough to smack me in the nose on recoil. Any R92 carbine owners out there that would like to comment? I've got a Rossi 92 in .38/.357 and that was my first impression also. Before I had only handled Garands, Mosins, etc. After a few trips to the range, and some time in the timber, I've grown to love the small, lightweight Rossi. Just give it time.

I have an older 1980's Rossi 92 in .357
I am tall and have long arms. I had to put one of those rubber slip on butt pads to extend the length of pull. Much nicer. Now I look like a whimp, with a butt bad just for a measly pistol round. Oh well.

Funnest gun I own! Love cranking the rounds through it.

It has a pull of about 13"...that's between the standard youth pull of 12"ish and the US adult 14"ish. It has never really caught my notice but that may be because i'm short at only 6' even. I've never had any trouble with nose-hammer interactions...and my carbine kicks harder than yours will.

I have a Rossi m92 in .38/.357 I felt the same way when I first got mine, UNTIL I shot it the first time, and I am by no means small (6'2", 210 lbs) the gun just seems to become a natural extension. YMMV as always

I'm 6'1" and take Large to XLarge gloves when I need them. My Rossi fits me just fine. And if the stock is a trifle short for the LOP than other styles I guess I'm a little odd because I like the close in "tight" feel of the Winchester '92 clone design.

You also need to go back and look at the intended market for the Win '92 when it was designed and introduced. At that point in time the guns were typically used as a saddle gun and hand carried around the farm or for in the woods hunting smaller game or picking off varmints that were bothering the livestock. This is pretty apparent by the use of the smaller size chamberings that were typical. So it's not surprising that it is a touch smaller than some of the "proper" rifles that you might be familiar with.

Plus of course the average height of men around 1890 was 5'7"....

Thanks everybody. I was thoroughly confused. It looks tiny, like a kid's gun. It's chambered for .44 Rem Mag, definitely not a kid friendly cartridge. I'm looking forward to discovering what it is about these little lever guns so many people love. I hope the receiver and bolt is the same as the 454 Casull model 'cause this ammo can full of handloads I have are loaded a little on the "warm" side.
