I'm a die hard Marlin 60 fan myself. If aftermarket doodads is a factor then get the 10/22. There's more bell's-n-Whistles for the 10/22 than you can shake a stick at. But be forewarned it will get pricey and addictive.

My first gun purchase was last October (I'm 52). An 'imitation GI carbine' which we will not discuss (sold it).
Then a Mosin 44, used couple of Minis, and an SKS, then a chunk of ammo.

My main regret is not having bought a Ruger 10/22. Have the ancient (my grandfather's) Savage .22 since 1981 instead.
