I am thinking of finally getting my first rifle. I want a bolt action and have been looking at the Tikka T3 varmint ss 308. It will be used for mostly fun out in the desert and some hunting. I also am looking to get a scope for it maybe a Bushnell. Can anyone give me some feedback on this rifle choice and some suggestions for a scope. Thanks in advance for any info.:D

How much are you going to spend? Are you buying new or used? How much total do you wanna spend including the carry case?

Lets say.. Most people dont wanna spend more than a grand. If that is where you are at, Then here is my suggestion.

Barreled Action - from legacy international Howa 1500 in .308

Stock - Boyds leminate

Scope - Bushnell Banner with 1" rings

That would be a good start.

I have a Tikka T3 in .30-06 and it's the best rifle I've ever owned, so I'm biased, but I would advise you to go for it. Getting one in .38 is a good choice because you can get cheap ammo and shoot the living bejeezus out of it, which will pay off in improving your skills.

I'd also advise you to spend a bit more and get quality optics. For not much mroe than a Bushnell you can pick up a Nikon Buckmaster, which is about equal to a Leopold VX-II but costs a lot less.
