I was reloading some 230 grain extreme regular plate bullets with 4.6 grains of tite group Sunday night with my Lee load master when my RCBS lock out die locked up 2-3 times. Each time I checked the offending case it had .7 grains or less in the case (due to the size of a 45 case and the small charge of tite group the best I can do with the lock out is empty case and well over max). I was using the lee precision adjustable charge bar because the disc could only do 4.4 and 4.8, 4.4 was functioning but barely. Needless to say I was very suspect of all the bullets made during this session and was carefully watching for squibs when I shot them today.
Around 80-90 shots in I had my first squib, I thought maybe it was a high primer at first because it made no noticeable noise/recoil, the empty case did not eject. Luckily the bullet had just gotten past the chamber and I was able to clear it with a screw driver and hammer with the barrel out of the gun(I know not the best but what I had on hand, for what its worth I didn't notice any gouges and I felt like I kept it on the nose of the bullet when hammering). I had one more squib like that and one round that felt really weak that misfed the next round.
Anyways I ordered the lee auto drum Sunday due to the loss of faith in the adjustable charge bar (never liked it much to start with, it is weird that my bullets made using it the week before had 0 squibs).
Have been reloading a little over a year, have loaded somewhere around 3656 rounds of various calibers.

Smart to be watching for the squibs. I have easily 40 guns on my wall that I bought (cheaply) from people who didn't know how to properly watch for squids or test reloads period. I had a reloaded 35 remington get stuck in my '63 336. That's the reason I carry titanium rods sized just big enough for the guns I brought. It would have been a bad day if I couldn't get that out. Also broke the extractor.

DBEAM, I had the same experience as you with the charge bar and Titegroup. Anything around and under 4 gr. in Titegroup would sometimes drop very little if any powder. No problems with other powders I used with it. 3 squibs and several weak to my count. And many pulled bullets.

You'll be happier with the Pro-Drum. I have had very consistent throws with Titegroup.

As trentcwwilson said, good for you at keeping aware! :)

Ive come close to squibbing more times than having an actual squib. Ive had 2 squibs. Ive had probably 8-10 that i thought for sure were squibs but the bullet cleared the barrel. Its amazing to think a cap gun would make more noise than a low/no charge load does and the bullet still gets out of the barrel.

Hopefully I'll be adding 5.7 reload disaster to my collection. I know of a few guys trying to load for it.

Lee Pro Drum seems to work well with Titegroup. + or - .1 for me.
(digital scale so it could be + or - .15 either way)

I would hope you have warned those guys!

1) Extremely sensitive caliber. Adhere closely to indicated loads and COL
guidelines
2) Begin at the MINIMUM start load and increase only in increments of 0.1 grain

With a pressure nearing 50,000 PSI...just saying.

I did. And did you know most manuals listed OALs are wrong? Lyman alone was a bomb waiting to happen. And .1 grains makes a HUGE difference.

The wife and I do cowboy shooting. I do some 3gun. I have alot of shooting time under my belt. The wife, not so much. Never seen a squib that wasn't from a person using a progressive press. They are ok if you understand you gun. Meaning that you don't continue if it doesn't sound/feel right.
So I retired my progressive press. Even though I never had a squib. Safety trumps speed.

im glad you ordered the drum. I use the adjustable charging bar before I got my drum. it was the life saver for things like this.

I've had 2 squibs in the last 6 mo. And a friend had one as well from the same batch. Both were "reman" ammo purchased from a reputable company. Super frustrating. Not willing to knock them publicly as they are sending some replacement ammo to make it right.

My last one was during steel plates, but i clearly noticed it. "poooof" vs "bang!". Someone had a nice brass squib rod and was sorted in <2min. I took pictures and emailed them to the company w/ the lot #'s.

One of my biggest concerns with my own relaods. Trying to be super careful/consistent to avoid them!
