:eek::eek:Holy Cow. MSR prices are falling faster than gold.

This Question is kind of like asking what is better a Ford Or a Chevy. The fans of each will line up and give a myriad of reasons why their choice is the best.

The fact is, even the lower priced range AR's are largely decent rifles. A person that is new to shooting, or even just new to the platform, doesn't need a super high end rifle. I don't own a Del-ton, but they seem to have come way up in quality in recent years. You can't go wrong with a S&W MP 15 either.

Or, if a person has a small amount of mechanical ability, they can buy a kit from PSA and build one for under $600 easily.

Read the story about Windham Weaponry. How Richard Dyke came out of retirement, used his own capital, and reopened the factory Freedom group shut down. He rehired all the laid off workers and Windham is now building one of the best value quality rifles you can get. Fit and finish is awesome plus lifetime no questions asked transferrable warrantee. Second to that, see if you can find one of those blemished Adams Arms ARs for $600. These are $1000+ rifles with a piston impingement system and no one who has bought one can find anything wrong with them.

I dont know how familiar you are with firearms.

DONT get one with an un detachable carry handle-you wont have anywhere to put a scope-unless you want to put it on the handle where it will look very similar to a double decker bus. The Ronny Rambos at the range will not be impressed. Ax me how I know.

taliv ... "$800 for a 6920? wow ... of course, no one will buy at that price. but just wait until the next election and people will be standing in line to pay $3000 again for them."

So funny and so very true ;)

Fixed carry handle is fine, if you don't care about putting an optic on your rifle.

I have a DelTon upper. It has never given me a problem.

Not knowing anything about AR-15s my choice would be S&W M&P 15 Sport with telescoping stock.

You can find better for cheaper right now...AND that is considering I am a huge fan of S&W products.

I am going to echo the many votes for PSA. They are often the cheapest and are of excellent quality, price and service.

I am unsure of the price but MOSt of my AR's are Rock River Arms... I LOVE THEM!

Colt - In my opinion you are buying the name.

I have had great rifles from Colt and Bravo Company, as well as CMMG.

Right now, Bravo has free bolt carrier groups with their uppers... you can get a standard upper for $439 or a BFH for $515...

Their lowers aren't ridiculous either.

The previous posts with $800 Colts are a great buy too...

I wouldn't buy a MP sport for $600 when I could have a Colt or BCM for $800ish

First time AR buyer.

Thanks Guy's for all the input. A friend of mine let me try out his Core-15 I really like this rifle. I still have my M1-carbine (Plainfield) I've had for 40 years. I also have several K rounds of ammo. I'm believe I will wait until after Christmas to get me an AR unless things turn worse than they are now. Once again thanks for the info.

There are something like 148 companies building ARs now. My gunsmith predicts next year will be interesting with the slow down in sales. Lots of those companies are single product line, just ARs.

In the post above about Windham, the lifetime warranty was mentioned. If, God forbid, there is another AWB in the future, many of those companies will be gone, and so will your warranty.

S&W also offers a lifetime warranty, but they're a full line company that's been in business for some 160 years. They'll still be around as ARs are just a small segment of their business. Just something to consider. The MP-15 Sport is a great rifle, I have one myself. Their mid-length MOE makes a great alternative to the Colt, and their VTac II with it's standard Gieselle trigger is as good as anything out there. If I were to get another AR, it would be on top of my very short list.

I have seen one Core-15 and one DB15 (Diamondback) being shot in person. The CORE15 trigger was disgusting but thats a simple fix. The DB15 was having problem after problem with several types of rounds... FTE' FTF, failure to lock the bolt back, casings getting stuck in the throat (would that still be classified as a FTE?)

We tried USGI, PMAGS, lancer mags, Federal, Americna Eagle, Winchester, Tula and Wolf and have the same issue with EVERY variation.

He bought the DB15 during the height of the Sandy Hook ban scare and paid way too much for it. It looks cool, but is not reliable. Given the issues I had with my DB9 and the terrible CS I got, I reccomend he cut his looses and get another brand. There is no better time then now.

To expand on my previous reccomendations. I have and have had several CMMG products and love them, RRA and PSA always! I may get tongue lashed for this but I had an Olympic arms I bought in 1996 that functioned flawlessly. The only gripe I had was the barrel was not threaded.

MAN...I just bought a Daniel Defense upper with FSB and no hand guards back in May. Got it for $410. Thought it was a much better deal than Bravo Company...the Daniel Defense has a CHF barrel, and the BCM CHF upper was selling for $100 more. But now I need to buy a BCG...and that will cost me another $170-$190

I kind of wanted a BCM since I already built one with a DD Barrel, upper, low pro gas block and BCG.

I am almost tempted to go ahead and buy a BCM anyway...but the CHF is out of stock...do I really need 3 16" ARs?

If getting an AR is something you want to do, either now or in the future, I would advise you get one now. It is very much a buyers market - the same may not be true after November.

What is the significance of November 2014? If this was 2008 or 2016 I could see a concern but why would this November matter much one way or the other?

Probably legislative seats...but the general public doesn't pay enough attention to those to cause another panic.
