Next step is changing out the grips.

The stock Rock Island grips are a little on the chubby side for my taste, too. I took 'em off and put on some double diamonds.

I see you got the Tactical model. Good call. The upgrades you get for the extra $60-ish are well worth it.

The 9mm RIA are gold here in California. They're not on our "not too unsafe" roster and a lot of guys lust after them.

Honestly Glocks are so common anymore,good but so common. Id go Ruger SR9C or Ruger SR1911

Go to the local range & run a box or 2 through some rentals, I'll be honest I really think a Glock 17 like mine is really great for someone just starting out but that is my humble opinion, buy what strikes your fancy & go have fun!
