bought a good belt for my J-frame

http://www.texasgunslinger.com/

I daily carry a J-frame and at the Wichta gun show today I found some
really nice belts for 34 bucks. It is nice and heavy and makes my IWB
carry much more comfortable.
He has alot more belts than are pictured on the web page.

I have gone into the mall with my cuffs, empty holster and empty spare mag holder to see if anyone would notice.

Jeff White stated

Cuffs??? Why are you carrying cuffs? Are you sworn?

Not sure of geographic locale for Kim but here in the Wild West certain "working class women" have been known to own and use handcuffs for reasons "other than law enforcement". God love Nevada, Gambling, Hookers and NFA weapons....all perfectly legal.

I didn't

understand the need for cuffs either, I just assumed KK wanted to see if anyone noticed.
No one does.
Internet commando's will say fanny packs, vest, NRA hats "screams gun"
(some one even said so on this thread, sorry, I mean no offense as I am often an internet commando my self, just not on the clothing isue)
I print...heck...in the summer I practically open carry. (tee shirt over the holster on my belt)
The few people who have noticed (uniformed LE) have simply nodded.

Most people will be entirely oblivious of even open carry, I noticed that the last time I was in AZ

Glad you mentioned that. <G> Since my first post on this topic, I haven't really gone anyplace besides back and forth to work. The place where I work is a definite no-carry place. I know of at least 2 employees who are no longer employees because they were caught carrying. I don't have a secure lock box for the car yet, so I haven't carried since the OP.

Today, I got up early to take my kid to work on his first real day on his new job. I didn't plan to get out of the car much, so I just used my fanny pack holster. What with 2 stops at Starbucks and a stop at the ATM, it was about a 90 minute trip. For this type of outing, I thought the fanny pack worked just great. It kept my gun close to me, had room for an extra mag and my wallet. It was NOT a fashion statement But then I had just thrown on some sweat pants and a t-shirt, so I wasn't really trying to impress anyone anyways.

I don't really have any great revelations for this post. Just sorta documenting my transition into a new way of living, and maybe provoke some old memories from the senior carriers here.

BTW, should I decide to go that route in the future, how do I go about qualifying for my Mall Ninja Permit? (MNP??) :D

Cuffs -- because arrest is legal by civilians.

Law here doesn't worry about "printing" -- open carry is legal. I've stopped worrying about what people think. Carrying a 45 ACP ultra compact 1911 on the belt these days, marginally covered with a light vest.

But then the Sheriff is about two forms out on giving me a badge.

What's your state law say about things like Unlawful Restraint? Do you know the legal elements of every crime you intend to arrest someone for?

Under what circumstances can a civilian make an arrest in your state?

What civil tort protection does a civilian have while making an arrest?

Who is going to cover you while you cuff your prisoner?

What happens if you're trying to make the arrest by yourself and the fight is on when the steel hits the wrist?

How much training have you had in handcuffing?

How about ground fighting?

A civilian with a firearm and handcuffs equals one of two things to most cops:

Wannabe poser or criminal

But then the Sheriff is about two forms out on giving me a badge.

You can become a deputy just by filling out two forms in your state? There are no other requirements? What state is that?

Jeff

Welcome to the comfortable, secure way of living.

If you want to wear a t-shirt and blue jeans, try a flatter handgun. A kahr cw 9 or 40 is a decent size, and a lot flatter than your 26. It should IWB carry nicely.

Also consider pocket carrying. I pocket carry a Kel Tec PF-9 every day in blue jeans.

I think 99 out of 100 hawaiian-shirt-wearin dudes are CCW holders. Welcome to the club. Yeah, it'll be like nothing at all after 6 months to a year, provided you're fully concealed and the weapon is retained tightly with whatever method. Good luck!

P.S. If I felt a need to "supplement", I'd use the thicker snubbie revolver in my Smart-Carry. As it stands, a think MK9 Kahr does just fine! :p :)

But it is very convenient that a large fraction of college-age males nowadays are wearing long sleeve, button down shirts from Hollister or similar. Buttoned down, worn with jeans, untucked= frat boy--unbuttoned, untucked that outfit lets my 150lb self hide a full-size, doublestack .45.

Can't Have It Both Ways Guys

In this thread I've heard both "People are too self absorbed to notice that YOU'RE packing." and "If you venture one foot out your door W/ a Hawiian shirt , a fannypack or God-forbid BOTH. everyone & their brother is going to know you're packing"

I wear Hawiian shirts all the time, people don't give me a second look.

I DO however, avoid NRA hats or anything else W/ a "gun" motif

I personally don't think much of anything "screams" concealed carry for the vast majority of people. Most people who are not into concealed carry don't have a clue how many people carry firearms all the time or even that it's legal. Before I got into it myself it never occurred to me to wonder if folks were carrying around me. As gun people and concealed carriers we think about our firearms and self defense on a regular basis. Truth is, most folks don't.

I live in Montana. Hawaiian shirts are not very common as you might imagine. Yet, the only guy I know who wears one on a regular basis (Nearly every day). Does not carry and I don't believe ever would. Of course, he is from California! :neener:

"Hawiian shirts" most often refers to loud, floral patterned, short sleeved shirts.

Many more subdued, light material, short sleeved shirts can be worn without the shirt tail tucked and will attract no attention whatsoever.

In fact, this style of shirt is very popular now and serves the purpose of concealment:

Doc if you wear your pants any higher, you're gonna get the senior discount at IHOP.

I often wear the type of shirts you posted, more of a "poker shirt" than a Hawaiian shirt, very handy. I tried that Smartcarry and couldn't get comfortable with it so I stick to either IWB full size, or more commonly a 642 with a Superfly pocket holster.

Hawiian Shirts & Concealed Carry

The rational behind my Hawiian shirts is very simple. From 1988 to 2003 I wore what Uncle Sam told me to wear. For the last 8 years in a machine shop I've worn either blue Dickies or a company uniform. Now that I'm in school I am REQUIRED to wear mono-chrome issue scrubs ( the day I graduate in gettin' some Hawiians).

on the one day a week that I'm not working or in school I'm wearin' what I want

"Doc if you wear your pants any higher, you're gonna get the senior discount at IHOP."

I already get my senior discount and apply it to the cost of my WalMart ammo!:D

I still remember how GOOD legal CCW felt that first time. :D
And hey, what's wrong with sleeping with several guns? Ya never know if you'll need a carbine, a shotgun or handgun. or maybe several of each.

Welcome to the club DD!!! I've only been carrying for a little over 6 months, so I'm pretty used to it but I still have the occasional OMG, everyone can see it feeling. You're wife sounds AWESOME!!! Wish ya'll lived around here....

Me and my guy have a pretty good pistol collection going, and he has a great knife collection...I usually borrow one of his, it's kinda like a buffet! Oh, and he gave me a 12g shotgun for Christmas!!!

Anyway, just be careful! Congrats!

I didn't expect the anti-theft alarm at the door to go off, but the thought was on my mind. I was relieved when it didn't.

............................................................................................

I know a lot of you have probably been carrying long enough to have forgotten your "first time", but does anyone have any particular remembrances of their own debut?

I was very nervous about tht as well. I started CCW before I found "the high road" and didn't have a chance to get that question answered without actually testing it!

I remember feeling like I was in on some great joke....that only I knew. But I was also VERY aware of the pistol and paranoid of my shirt lifting over the butt whenever I bent over. So I ended up bending at the knees with my back straight like a board for a few days....
