Barring some bureaucratic foul-up The Wife and I will have our CCW permits soon.
We paid the fee and were mugshotted and printed and handed in all the paperwork. Though I do live in California I reside in Butte Co. which is a very favorable place to get a CCW. The sheriff here treats the whole deal as a shall issue situation meaning he has to find some legitimate (based on the law) reason to deny you. There are no games with only friends and supporters getting permits and you don't have to worry about a paperwork error (which I know has been used to hassle people in other places) to derail the process. In fact we were told to ignore the bits about only filling in or signing certain areas in the presence of "The investigating officer".
So while the whole idea of a permit is an abomination, here in Butte they do try to make it easy on you.
I usually do not carry my wallet or ID with me. I leave it in the car untill I know I will need it.
This will have to change once I get the CCW card.
Instead of placing it in my wallet and then having that on me all day I am thinking about getting some sort of deal that hangs around my neck under my shirt and keeping my ID stuff there.
That way if there is some sort of situation involving the police and they want to see my ID I can just take the chain from around my neck and hand the whole thing over instead of have to reach to my waistband. If they already know or think I am carrying I think this would be the better tactic.
They will be able to see my hands at all times and I need make no untoward movements. This would be very safe for me, I think, while I am seated in a car.
Or maybe, I am just over-thinking this.
What says ye?
