First time out in CCW-land.

I'm picking up my CCW at the sherrif's office today. I don't plan any trial run or fast trip to Wal-Mart just because I can. All that kind of behavior makes me think people are going out playing vigilante or Death Wish - like they're just hoping something happens.

How Many Times Do We Need To Have This Discussion?

There have been multiple threads on THR about the "Wal-Mart Walk". Even though nobody yet (to my knowlege) has that their intent was to "patrol" for bad guys , somebody always shows up and claims that's the intent.

With that in mind I will once again atempt to explain the Wal-Mart Walk.

When I first got my permit I was not confident at all in my ability to effectively conceal my weapon. I deliberately chose to take a walk around Wal-Mart to face that fear. Wal -Mart was the perfect place because it was open to the public, W-M is ccw friendly (at least in Colorado) , and it's usually crowded. It was the perfect place to desenitive myself to that " Everybody knows I've got a gun" feeling.

It wasn't until later that I found out I wasn't the only one who had the same issue when I started CCW.

I'm not sure how far back the tradition goes, I'm sure it started here on THR, but now it's simply a shared experience. Something we can all do together in different neighborhoods all over the country.

Doesn't sound vigilante to me

This morning I've seen two transvestites, one Elvis impersonator, and man on a Segway. I'm in Vegas too, and a man in a Hawaiian shirt or one wearing a fanny pack stands out like a blade of grass in a bag of clippings.
Which is why when carrying in Vegas, I always recommend drag, with the gun strapped to your thigh under your dress. :)

I bought a "blue gun" and started carrying it in a IWB holster before I got my CHP so that I would be used to the feeling and not feel as exposed when I started carrying for real.
