First time shipping a handgun.

So I went to the UPS store yesterday to ship out my revolver to be hard-chromed. I know the rules are it must be shipped overnight, and you must say it is a handgun. I inquired as to verify these regulations with the lady working in there, but she didn't seem to know or care.

Is it my responsiblity alone to make sure that I follow the laws...shouldn't UPS employees know the regulations?

I felt sort of uncomfortable saying that I was shipping a handgun in front of all the other customers there...Do I need to declare it out loud to the employee working, or just write it on the sheet they give me?

You just need to state it on the UPS form you hand to the employee with the package. They will also ask to see a copy of the FFL you are shipping it to. I'm surprised that a UPS store would accept a firearm. I take mine all the way out to the actual UPS site and go to the service counter. People there are more used to firearms and know the regs.

You have to go to a UPS "customer counter". I'm not sure what you mean by "UPS Store" if it is an Mail Boxes, etc., or other contractor, they won't ship guns for you.

You should go to UPS.com and print out their rules on shipping firearms to take with you. The stellar employees at UPS don't always know their own company's policies.
