I've got 2 handguns that need to be shipped for warranty work...shipping question

ive been wanting to send my cz to cz custom shop for a while now but this whole shipping thing has got me paranoid...

so if i were to just wrap it up in a box, put the address on it (which is not clearly gun-related), walk into the fedex store and say "i need to send this box to this location" and leave it at that and just pay regular shipping costs....do you think anything 'bad' would happen?
Guns were being stolen left and right by delivery company employees who figured out that packages going to certain addresses were most likely guns.

Do it the right way. There is a lot of downside involved with trying to save a few bucks.

ETA: After more research it seems that frames (with or without serial numbers) may not be shipped via USPS. I'm still uncertain about that though. Sorry for the confusion.

The "receiver" of the handgun may not be shipped via USPS unless you're an FFL. 99% of the time that receiver is the frame, but not always. On the Ruger Mk1/2/3's for example, the upper cylindrical tube (which is where the slide would be, though those guns don't use a slide) is the receiver, and so that part becomes the restricted item.

I've got two relatively inexpensive handguns that need to go back the manufacturer for warranty work. I know the only insured/proper way to send a handgun yourself is to take it to UPS/FedEx, declare it a handgun, and pay for overnight shipping.

My issue is that neither gun is really worth me paying $50-$75 to ship back. I know if a handgun is shipped and lost and was not shipped appropriately, they will not reimburse. However, if I am willing to take the risk of the carrier losing the gun, is it illegal for me to not declare it a handgun?
I don't know for sure but if it is illegal it's Federal Law likely - and I wouldn't play around on the train tracks if I were you. It's to your interest to declare what it is: you want your gun on a truck being handled by many people as it transfers from truck to truck all over the place?

Spend the bucks and do it with all the "I"'s dotted. I think that's the best way to be about anything with guns. Play fast and loose with your toaster, not a highly controlled lethal weapon.
