first time shooting

My Dad only had single shot Vincenzo Bernardelli 12GA shotgun.
This gun is somewhere around 4lbs and kicks like a mule for a kid who is 11 and weighs about 90lbs soaking wet.
We were at my uncles place and had been bothering my Dad to try it.
He and my uncle brought me out back and set up a jug full of water.
They put me some 30 yards away from the water jug, loaded the shotgun and handed it to me. They warned me numerous times that it would kick much harder than my 22 cal BB gun.
They were right but I did hit the water jug dead on.
I now own that shotgun and maybe some day I'll have a son to pass it on to.

Can't remember what age I was, but I do remember my first time shooting. My dad had gotten rid of a huge tree stump, set it in the middle of the yard, put a target on it, and set me down at the picnic table with a Winchester 190 semi-auto 22 rifle and a brick of Rem thunderbolts. Started shooting that day and did it almost every Sunday morning, especially when dad saw how sorry the thunderbolts were and just wanted to get rid of them. I remember one round would make a nice crack, next one a pathetic thud. One thing though, I don't remember that rifle ever failing to cycle or extract a round. I did put a hole through our tin smokehouse when I missed once.

Still have that Winchester to. Back when I shot it, the front sight had broke off and dad had soldered a piece on it, and the elevator for the rear sight was missing and was replaced by a nail. Years later when dad was cleaning it, the recoil spring shot out and was lost. I found a new spring on the web, as well as the sights and got it working again.

I was 6 or 7 years old. Mom had bought Dad a Remington 552 speedmaster right after they had married . Grew up shooting that gun which my younger brother owns now. When I was ten, dad bought me a Mossberg .410 which I still carry squirrel hunting today.
