Fitness a factor?

Statistically, you're more likely to drown than be shot. Time would be better spent practicing swimming and not being drunk around bodies of water, than time spent at the range and time spent avoiding bad parts of town.

Statistically, you're better off leaving that CCW and instead strapping on a bicycle helmet before you go driving. Trade the extra mags and BUG for a neck-brace.

Kettlebells and walking will put you in decent shape even if you are aging and arthritic. I know from experience. The great thing about the kettlebells is that their use involves lots of muscle groups and promotes an overall strengthening, unlike the isolation exercises more common in US gyms.
I have a pair of kettlebells weighing 1 pood (about 35 pounds) each. When an exercise becomes too easy, I move to a more difficult exercise rather than heavier weights. There is a wealth of stuff on the web about kettlebells and there is a superb iphone app that has a multi-level program with lots of different exercises.

Last year, I joined a local Crossfit gym and changed my eating habits.

Since then, I've dropped around 30 lbs of body fat, increased my stamina and increased my overall body strength.

I've still got a long way to go, but I've come really far from being an overweight couch potato.

I bike to work with my carry weapon in my bag. It's the best of both worlds. Gun...spare mag...AND the helmet. ;-)

I am 6' 2" tall weigh 200 with two pistols, can't walk too good, bad hip and knee joints. My HD weapons have changed as my age increases and eye sight have changed. Other wise I'm in good health, never sick. I turned 65 in July. I keep in practice shooting turtles in the pond.

Fitness is very important. This is coming from someone who needs to lose 50 pounds. I would be at a disadvantage if I had to fight. I'd be too slow and would tire way too fast. You'd think that knowledge would get me in the right direction. I definately need to shape up.

^ Take the first step man, literally. The benefits reach far beyond the tactical benefits. You can do it!
