I bought a WSAR back when flash suppressors were illegal. It had a nut spot welded on the barrel. Since flash suppressors are now legal, I assumed I could cut the weld, back off the nut, and screw on a flash suppressor. I backed the nut off, but there are no threads.

What now? Should I have the outside of the barrel threaded? Can I attach a suppressor with JB weld or something else, or will I have to have one welded on?

You can thread the barrel, have a brake welded on, or buy a pin-on AK-74 type brake.

JB Weld and other epoxies WILL NOT hold a muzzle attachment on.

Threading depends on whether the muzzle just wasn't threaded to start with, or whether the threads were ground off.
If they were ground off, you'd have to use the AR-15 size threads for the smaller muzzle.
Threading is the nicest method, since you can attach a number of different muzzle attachments.
You do need to have the spring detent in the front sight base. There may be one already there, or there may be the hole to install one.

What kind of WASR is it?

It's a WSAR 10 imported by CAI. I got it shortly after they hit the market. That's all I know.

I can't tell if it was originally threaded or not. The barrel seems pretty thin. There is a hole at the bottom of the front sight, but nothing in it. Looks like I need to take it to a gunsmith.

Thanks for both of your responses.

Is there a gap between the front sight block and the barrel?

If not, you can probably get it threaded in the commie standard of 14x1LH and use any available Kalashnikov muzzle device on it.

If you do have a turned-down-barrel, you can thread it ½x24 (AR15/M16 pattern) and use any of the available muzzle devices (but you'll have to use a crush washer or some other method of keeping it in place)
