Whats the best way to mount a flashlight on a weapon without a rail system?

Self defense rifle, keeping it light and simple...

Options look like a bayonet lug mount or a section of rail attached to the handguard.

handguard has the "double heat shield" if it makes a difference.

I think Midwest Industries makes a decent one for the FSB.

Another option, not too bad of cost, is to put a set of Magpul MOE handguards on it with a section of Ergo/Falcon rails on it. That's the option I chose, because I wanted something other than the CAR handguards. $26 for the handguards, $20 for the rail.

There is also a picatinny rail that slides onto the bayonet lug. This is what I use. It makes the bayonet lug actually useful.

Streamlight makes a cheap rail for the standard handguard, I use it with a G2L and its mounted just forward of the mag well so it can be activated with my knuckles, this is on my beater KISS AR. My other AR....well its got stuff all over it ;)

I made a bayonet lug light mount out of a piece of 1/8" mild steel, a Weaver scope base, and a 1" ring.
It's held on the bayonet mount by two little allen-head screws.

Midwest Industries MCTAR-01 front sight rail ($35), VLTOR SM-G mount ($35), and Cree LED Surefire G2 (Q5-LAMP-G2 from TNVC $78). Instant, intuitive thumb activation of 220 lumens - no tape switches, no fumbling. Interesting Surefire shown above, but its not on their current website. What was the model, BSW?
