Flitz a pitted bore?

Tried shooting w/ 175 gr bullets today and the rifle shoots just fine with those - consistent POI about six inches above POA at 100 yds - about where I'd expect it to be given that bullet's trajectory and the rifle's sights, so I think I'm just going to leave the barrel alone and just go with the heavy bullets. My thanks to @Jerry M for his recommendation to do that.

I got a hold of some south American made 7x57 fmj that shot terribly in my M70 fetherweight. Surplus 7x57 is generally terrible ammo.

you might smooth off a few pitted areas a bit lapping, but my guess is that rifle will enjoy more fouling rounds before testing its accuracy

Perhaps. It was new production Remington I was shooting. Ya ... I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted it sitting on a Fleet Farm store shelf. And after some yahoo at Scheel's told me it wasn't being made anymore. Yet, at $55 a box of 20, it's kind of painful even if it's available.
