I've got a Ruger M77 Hawkeye All-Weather rifle with the rubberized synthetic stock. I want to mount a ching sling on it but in order to do that I have to attach a third sling stud/mount to it just forward of the magazine. I figured if I'm going to get a sling stud installed anyway, I might as well upgrade all three to the new QD push-button type you see on so many "tactical" rifles for fast detach. Uncle Mike's makes a flush mount QD swivel attachment that you can install in a stock:

I went to a local gunsmith and he said it was too hard to mount a swivel in a rubberized stock and that the flush mound QD ports would not stay glued into a synthetic rubberized stock, nor would a traditional fixed stud stay glued/screwed in either. He said the only way would be to get a custom stock made that already had the third swivel stud installed from people like McMillan. However, I really like the Ruger rubber overmould stock and I don't want to buy a $700 non-rubberized McMillan stock to attach a $5 sling swivel mount.
So is this gunsmith full of it or is that really my only option? My goal is to attach a ching sling and it would be nice of I could use the push button QD swivels but that's not completely necessary. I do not want to buy a new stock. If you know of any gunsmiths who CAN do this work, I would happily ship my stock to them so it can be done.
