4D9AA523-DFDE-478D-962F-8779BE958226.jpeg Got this BCA 16” stainless fluted 5.56 from Primary Arms awhile back for $50. Also have a stainless Phantom flash hider to go with it. I’ve got the stuff to build it into an upper, just need to motivate myself to do it. Machining on this barrel looks really good.

That should make a nice looking rifle. If you want the flutes to show, a 12” rail would show it off.

Gunny, your "cowboy instincts" are showing in regard to the flutes. Isn't that something like buying the tall BLUE aluminum bottles of Budweiser? Isn't it the same beer in the red and white can?
I gotta' admit that this is the land of the free, so you have a perfect right to the displays of flutes.
I hafta' admit that I just finished an 8 pack (I think) of the blue bottles.
In all seriousness, is there any advantage in the flutes?
Now I have to make a beer run and await your reply. :)

Great minds think alike! I’ve got a 12” key mod rail waiting for me to get off my butt.
Here is a pic of the same barrel I used on the FDE rifle in post #10 & #19. I bought two of them a few years ago from CDNN Sports. A friend asked if I would save the barrel for her next build, and I said I would.

Hopefully your beer run is just across the house and not down the road. :)

Flutes are done for four reasons.
#1 To make a barrel more regedit.
#2 To reduces weight.
#3 To add more surface area to help with cooling.
#4 To look cool.

Well, I guess it’s going to be the Aero Precision 16” barrel. I just placed the order. They have a 15% off sale for the 4th and the barrel was $212.49 with free shipping.

I’ve heard that Aero owns Ballistic Advantage now, and the Aero barrels are BA, which is gtg.

This thread kind of got me thinking about another AR with a fluted lightish barrel. I decided to go for a 6.5 Grendel as general purpose light weight carry around, maybe pop some deer type rig.

It was between these two barrels:

Ballistic Advantage fluted SPR

Wilson Combat Recon
https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Match-...-Twist-Stainless/productinfo/TR-65GRCMG16RT8/

Wound up going with the Wilson Combat, hopefully it shoots well. My .223 SPR is an Odin Works, and I've been very happy with that.

Also picked up a few good holiday deals, Superlative Arms adjustable gas block at Ballistic Advantage for $69 and a Toolcraft Grendle BCG at Arm or Ally for $79, in case anyone else is looking for those parts.

I'll be interested to hear how the fluted Ballistic Advantage barrel does for you.

I’m on the road and just saw this. OpticsPlanet sale at $199.49 for the 16”. If I weren’t spending money like water all over the South right now I’d be ordering one myself. Looking forward to seeing your new build.

I saw it over at Optics Planet, but I stopped ordering from them in 2016. There are some companies I just don't do business with.
