It's one of the finest semi-auto battle rifles ever made. Better than the Garand, actually. Fully adjustable gas port, excellent machined parts, simple and durable gas system, rugged and elegant. The main reason FN stopped making them was because production costs were too high to make much profit on them. The SAFN also came in rather late in the game. Saive had come up with the concepts before WWII but had to flee to the UK, where the hidebound military wasn't interested in developing a semiautomatic rifle for the troops. So the whole thing got delayed until late in the war and by the time it started getting sold in the '50's the selective fire rifle came into play.
