My original style FNP9 feels just like a SIG in terms of grip angle, high bore axis, pointing, and even holster fit (not all holsters for SIG will work; just the open top, no thumbsnap styles).
The grip for a hi-cap gun is rather thin. It is as thin as my Glock 19. My small hands fit the grip rather nicely.
The recoil is so mild with the 9mm, that I use the FNP9 exclusively lately for shooting fun, and carry.
I stored my P228 away and my Glock 19, because the FNP is such a useable and darned good gun. I get about 3-4 inch groups rapid fire at 15 yds. There are others who shoot better. I know the gun has better accuracy than I shoot.
The decocker is a bit on the thin, flat, countersunk side, but I think they intentionally designed it that way the first attempt, to minimize snagging. I think consumers end up preferring the (now) larger thumb safety/decocker versions.
It even disassembles like a SIG. The finish scratches and wears easily. The rail is pretty nive to hold a light, if you have one. I paid $300 from CDNN for the gun with 3 10-rd mags. I later bought some 16rd factory mags for $29 each. Most gun dealers sell the kit for $400-$450 with all 3 high-cap mags and recent updates to safety and triggers. Older package deals had the 3 hi-cap mags with the LEO markings.
It really is an underated gun. I think people who buy Sigmas, Ruger P95, and other budget nines really should give the FNP9 a glance before committing cash.
