Bought an FNP 40 earlier this week and took it to the range a couple of days later. Put over 200 rounds of various types of hand loads and factory ammo down range with no failures. Very impressed with this handgun and it reminds me of my Sig 229-40, but the FNP-40 has a rail. The DA and SA trigger is smooth and it is very accurate. Definately a keeper.

I think that the FNP is one of the most unknown, and underated auto pistols out there. In my experience they are excellent guns.

I would really like to know more about them. I've never even seen one in person.

Is there any other handgun that has a similar feel to the FNP?

Does it have a lower bore axis, than a Sig?

Thanks.

Hey Larry, Do you have any of the FNPs in stock? I'd really like to look at one again...

I need to come visit you guys anyway. :)

Wes, yeah, I've got one. In fact the gun I ended up putting on the simulator was an FNP9.

My original style FNP9 feels just like a SIG in terms of grip angle, high bore axis, pointing, and even holster fit (not all holsters for SIG will work; just the open top, no thumbsnap styles).

The grip for a hi-cap gun is rather thin. It is as thin as my Glock 19. My small hands fit the grip rather nicely.

The recoil is so mild with the 9mm, that I use the FNP9 exclusively lately for shooting fun, and carry.

I stored my P228 away and my Glock 19, because the FNP is such a useable and darned good gun. I get about 3-4 inch groups rapid fire at 15 yds. There are others who shoot better. I know the gun has better accuracy than I shoot.

The decocker is a bit on the thin, flat, countersunk side, but I think they intentionally designed it that way the first attempt, to minimize snagging. I think consumers end up preferring the (now) larger thumb safety/decocker versions.

It even disassembles like a SIG. The finish scratches and wears easily. The rail is pretty nive to hold a light, if you have one. I paid $300 from CDNN for the gun with 3 10-rd mags. I later bought some 16rd factory mags for $29 each. Most gun dealers sell the kit for $400-$450 with all 3 high-cap mags and recent updates to safety and triggers. Older package deals had the 3 hi-cap mags with the LEO markings.

It really is an underated gun. I think people who buy Sigmas, Ruger P95, and other budget nines really should give the FNP9 a glance before committing cash.

You wicked, wicked man. :D You keep doing things to suck me in to that place! You should have been in marketing. :p

Speaking of which, I need to drop by anyway... it's been a long time since I've been there. Are you there on weekdays at all?

Back on topic, does anyone know if FN is going to have a variation with a decocker AND a safety (like the Browning PRO9)?

FNP-40 for son

I bought a FNP-40 for my number 2 son's 21st birthday gift. It was to be his first hand gun so I really took my time finding the right one for him. (about 2 months) When it was given to my son he almost could not control himself. All he wanted to do was shot it. When we took it out in the yard and fired the first round he fell in love with it.

I am a retired Marine who was taught to shot by my father before kindergarten and need a little more to fall in love. (Been burned too many times) After firing it on several occasions, when we fired together, I am now in love and looking for one for myself.

Have fired about 500 rounds through it in the last couple of months without any defects and found it to be exceptionally accurate.

The only thing I really do not like is the mag release. It is hard to get to and does not always drop the mag the way you would want it to in a combat mode, although it has got better about "dropping" them with use. When I get mine I am going to see if I can't build it up some to make it more assessable.

FNP Series...

Own the FNP-9 (shot the FNP-40 and .45, love 'em), without question it is a great gun... and like correia said 'its one of the most under-rated guns out there'. Also, to confirm Gunz, I have a Sig-P229 and it's a very similar feel, trigger-pull, break-down, etc. My only 'poly' gun and am VERY seriously thinking about the .45, which for me, was a GREAT shoot!!
The FNPs are 'sleepers' and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND any of their FNP models... great quality and still a good value!!

Bought the Browning version of this, also in 40SW, and absolutely love mine. Wish the ammo was as cheap as 9mm, though.

I believe the new USG models have the safety/decocker. I think you have to push the decocker lever up to safe it. They have the God awful brown frame though :barf:

Their catalog (http://fnhusa1.com/PDF/FNHCatalog_08ssm.pdf) does show them with safeties:

i love the FNP-40. Incredibly(!) well made for the money. Stainless slide and forged stainless barrel, attributes rarely seen at this price point.
The US Military trusts nearly their entire small arm arsenal to FN, so that says something in my mind.
I've heard good things about the XD too, but for my money, the FNP 40 is hard to beat.

The FNP line is a real sleeper these days. CDNN has the FNP-9 for $379 +shipping. I personally think it is the best value on the market today. Comes with 3 mags etc...

Great guns that will run all day long for a rock bottom price. I love everything about mine.

Ditto...

Ditto rellascout... Anytime you can get a NIB FNP-9 for $379+, jump on it!!
Its a quality, flawless shoot... and definitely worth the money!

I did not need it but I could not resist.

The only disappointment is the $379 guns do not have the Fredericksburg, VA roll mark. I live in the Burg so it would have been cool but not cool enough for me to pay more.

When I get the FNP-45 to go with the FNP-9 it will be all good.

I have one of the first FNP-40's and I am quite pleased..The only issue I have had is the take down lever does ding the slide after about 100 rounds or so.FN's service is not the best , they class this as normal wear..No other company would.

It does NOT effect the accuracy and its not causing any failures that I have read about. The pistol is easily as accurate as my sig..

I love my all stainless Sig 229 which were made in limited numbers. But my FN 40 has treated me well enough that I purchased a .357sig in a FN .I also have a TP Shotgun and a few other firearms made by FN..The company builds fine firearms..

I bet you do! HAHA... :)

How funny that ya'll just resurrected a 2 year old thread this week... I have just started looking at the FNP-9's. Considering trading away my SKS and some extras to get one...

Now I am torn on deciding between the FNP-9 and saving a little money by getting a Makarov... If I could trade even on the FN, I'd be ALL over it!

Went to Guns&Ammo down on Summer Ave yesterday and got to hold and fondle an FNP40. My first impression was "wow, this feels amazing". The decockers DO stick way out, almost in an unnatural way, but I am curious to see if the right side (left handed) tab could be removed?

Downside, they wanted $569 for the one that already had the NiteSights on it... :( Stock one was $519, and the FNX-9 that they had was $629...
