So in the latest issue of American Riffleman there is an article about the new FNH offering of two FNS guns in one pack.

The pack comes with two complete side assemblies, one in 9mm and one in 40 S&W, one polymer frame, 3 9mm mags, 2 40 cal mags, and the usual case, lock, ect.

They list the MSRP at $1400........ Am I the only one who doesn't get it?

The going rate for the FNS pistols is about $650, and around $600 for FNX pistols, and each comes with 3 mags I believe. Being a fan of FN poly guns, I ready the article and had interest in this offering, but when I saw the MSRP, it made me wonder this:

Why would I pay $100 more for one fewer mag, and one fewer frame?

If the MSRP was like $1100 and it could be had for $1000 in the store, then I see the benefit, but this just seems to be the same price for two complete guns, when you are getting one complete gun, one fewer mag, and a conversion upper. This makes no sense to me. Am I missing something on this one? Is this just a marketing ploy with a bad price attached to it?

The only thing I can think of is that for guns, actual price in stores is usually lower than MSRP. If going rate for an FNS is 650, maybe the MSRP is 750 or so. That would make sense.

Unless government officials limit to how many guns citizen can own this pack is pretty much pointless.

Ok, so based on that

Bud's Gun Shop has the retail price of the FNS 9 and 40 listed at $640.66. So for two complese guns at 80% that would be $1025.06.

So you'd still be paying less for two complete guns and an extra magazine...... Yeah, I still don't get where they are going. Maybe the MSRP in AR was an estimate, and it will be lower. They need to keep it down in order for this to make any sense.

Bud's price is retail, not MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price).

If the MSRP for the two-pack is $1400, and retail price really is approximately 80% of MSRP, the retail price for the two-pack will be $1120.
If the retail price (the price at Bud's) for an FNS is $640, MSRP is roughly $768. Again, that's assuming retail price is 80% of MSRP.

So here's the conclusion:

Two FNS handguns, bought separately:
MSRP $1536
Retail $1280

The FNS Two-Pack:
MSRP $1400
Retail $1120

You're going to pay less for the "Two-Pack" than you'd pay for two separate FNS', whether you pay MSRP or retail.

I have an FNS-9, great gun but I'd buy the FNS-9 and FNS-40 separately before I'd buy the combo kit.

I agree. The .40 to 9 conversions that require only a $100 barrel (or .357 SIG conversions which require the same) are good values. By the time you're swapping out the slide though you're getting to close the cost of a whole 'nother gun to justify it. That appears to be the case even when the manufacturer is bundling them together.

Yeah if the frame is the same that means the ejector is not an issue. My experience with .40S&W to 9mm conversion barrels says this would be the way to go -- get a Storm Lake conversion barrel and some 9mm Mags. Of course you may have to wait for Storm Lake or someone to actually make one.

Perhaps there is something to do with a "Special Collector's Set" with matching serial numbers. Collectors generally prefer matching serial numbers on items they collect.

That's possible, though I usually think of all metal guns to be collectors items, not poly guns. I guess there is someone who collects anything though, so you may be right.

Sig has a P250 2SUM where you convert the gun from a subcompact to a med/large one with more capacity. It's about $600.

I think it is a great idea, just not for the price FN is suggesting for it. 3rd part conversion barrels exist to turn lots of large caliber firearms to smaller with just a barrel swap and sometimes a mag change depending on caliber. Good concept but they are arriving to the party with the wrong price to make it viable.

Can't comment on the package deal, but the FNS is a fantastic gun. My favorite plastic blaster by far.

Conversion barrels will cost a bit more than $100. You can not convert the FN?-9 to 357 Sig. I had the FNP-40 (which you can convert to 357 Sig or 9mm) that I bought the 357 Sig conversion barrel for. Gun = $575 Barrel = $175 total for both $750.

The 40 and 357 Sig use the same mags, so you do not have to buy anything else than the barrel. A better deal for a two caliber gun.

Ok. I would rather buy THREE Rugers. Finito now?
