Ive decided after 30+ years of gun ownership that I cant live any longer without a 45. I like hammer fired, double action pistols, and yesterday had the chance to handle the FN FNX-45. I really like it, as it is very similar to my Ruger P95s. The gun was in the Law Enforcement case, and was $620(Law Enforcement discount). The shop was busy, and I forgot to ask what my price would be. Looking around online, it seems like high $600s is about the bottom dollar for these. What did you pay for your FNX-45?

Since owning yours, how do you like it? Other than the funky magazine baseplate, I see nothing but good. I will probably purchase one very soon, so its time to ask now about opinions. Thanks all.

I decided this will be my first .45 in polymer. closes thing to handling one is the fnp .45, its true the grip is larger but handling the fnp is no problem for me. my order should be in about a week or so. theres allot of reiews on youtube

I don't think you'll find a better price for that pistol nib. How many mags does it come with? The more mags the better, they aren't cheap mags (then again, very few mags are cheap right now). Buy it!

$850 here but this LGS will take about 5% less if you sweet talk them. My wife was drooling over one in Earth tone this past Friday

WOW. I need to check a couple of my other LGSs. I will be surprised if I cant get one for around $675

We left it in the case. Buds has them for $684 so their $850 was not what we were expecting to find. But somebody will buy it and that's fine ... for them.

I have one with a CT Railmaster laser on my bedside table. It is a soft shooter, extremely accurate, and fun to shoot. It also serves as one of my hiking sidearms in a Safariland holster with a rotating hood, same as a lot of cops use.

Mine was made in 2009, so I had some of the old issues that were common with earlier ones.

Spent brass was smacking me in the face as I am right handed, but left eye dominant. Thus I was holding the gun too far left. It also wasn't broken in. I got a few burns on my collar bone as a casing would go down my shirt from time to time. Since the pistol got broken in, and I have trained myself to shoot right eyed, this problem resolved itself with about 750 rounds. The casings now eject in a much more consistant pattern.

Early mags had issues with the springs, and it failed to feed all of a sudden. I ordered new springs from Midwest gun works, and they were a full 2.5 inches longer than the old used ones. That problem was solved. After some adjustments and simple fixes on my part, I trust my life to it.

It is one of two polymer guns I own. The other is a SA XDs in .45. IMO, It is a far nicer weapon than any GLOCK or other poly gun, especially if you prefer hammer guns as I do.

BTW, the beveled mag floor plates take 15 rounds. The flat ones take 14. I also ordered 3 beveled floor plates from Midwest Gun Works, and converted all mine to 15 rounders. The old ones only came with 3 14 round mags.

Mine is an FNP-45. Not sure what changed in them to warrant the FNX designation, but hopefully that means the issues I had are fixed.

I would definately recommend this gun if you are looking for a full sized, ammo maxed, shooter that can fill all roles needing to be filled by a .45 acp, with the exception of concealed carry. That doesn't work so hot, as it was designed to be a duty pistol. I'd by another for sure. I wish they would make an all stainles, no polymer version, in 10 mm. Heavy as hell, but what a power house that would be.

From everything I have read, this pistol seems like a winner. I am excited and looking forward to grabbing one. I have never owned a 45 acp, or even shot one. I have just about all the other common handgun calibers, so this seemed like a hole I needed to fill. I like Ruger, and have handled an SR45 at the LGS, but have never been a fan of a gun without a hammer(or an internal hammer you cant drop). The short trigger pull of the SR45 shocked me, and I certainly dont want something like that for a defense pistol. I know some people will think thats crazy, but I like the longer first pull, it makes it much harder to make a mistake. in a defensive role. I pray I never will need a pistol to defend my life, and I just cant see a short trigger being safe when your heart is pumping 200 beats a minute, your hands are shaking, and your brain is saying OMG RUN! Ok... Im rambling... Thanks for every comment, and the reassurance that this is a pistol I will be very happy with.

I have never owned a 45 acp

Then you are in for a treat. I shot a 9mm a few times......eh.... though it was a S&W Sigma, so I may still look for a 9mm shooter at some point. Then I bought a .40 S&W thinking that was going to be the one semi auto cartridge I needed. I hated it. The "snappines" of the round that you read about on the internet came into play for me. Then I bought my FN. Less recoil and more power? Hmmmm. OK! Since then I've also picked up a XDs like I said, and a S&E E series 1911. My guess is that once you get your FN, you'll start wondering how .45 acp shoots out of an all steel gun. The answer is.... great.

A note on the trigger. The DA pull is long and stiff, but you said you like that. There is a bit of take up before the trigger breaks in SA, but when it does, it breaks cleanly.

I have an HK USP .45 in variant 1. Does this model FNX .45 operate in the same manner? The decocker is also the saftey lever on my HK. Is that how this works? Thanks for your answers.

Yes, the safety lever is also a decocker on the FNP/FNX-45. However, note that the decocker on the FNP does not drop the hammer all the way, it drops it about 3/4ths of the way.

Up is safe
middle is fire
down decocks

The hammer after decocking is probably rigged in a similar way to SIG hammers. With the rebound spring. It keeps the hammer away from the pin in case it's dropped. The only way to get full contact is probably pulling the trigger.

Yep, that is correct. The only gun I've owned that dropped the hamer all the way was my Stoegar Cougar. That gun is designed to rotate the firing pin out of the way when the safety is engauged. The down side is that the gun can not be carried cocked and locked then, for a SA first pull.

The FNX can be carried cocked and locked.

Many LGS are selling the FNX-45 for $699.99 but some are selling at the MSRP of $824.00. I would buy it at that price as it most likely will change soon (but you never know).

I have the FNP45, they are a little cheaper to buy. I gave about $600 for it. I have been super happy with this gun. The HK USP I have was always the best shooting handgun I own but now it has an equal in the FNP. The threaded barrel was added aftermarket for a suppressor.

I had the FNP 45 like the poster above me and I absolutely loved it. Only issue i had was wwb ammo sticking in the mags because the tolerances were not there on the wwb ammo but they opened the mags up on the fnx. I really want the fnx but its a little hard to get one in my state after the new b.s. laws they just passed.

Soft shooting the 14+1 or 15+1 capacity depending on the mags you get was a plus. Nice and easy to field strip. Way more accurate than I am.

Only negative was the lack of aftermarket. Holsters, mags, and sights. I got a holster from raven when i had mine and they were one of the few who were making them

Mine came with 2-14 and 1-15 round mag. The gun is a pleasure to shoot especially with a suppressor.

So far I love it, very easy to change pistons for different host guns. The Osprey is very quiet on .45 and 9mm.

I was able to grab my FNX-45 today. $679. Hoping to get a chance to hit the range tomorrow. Thanks to all who commented and gave opinions.

I don't own one, but I was thoroughly impressed by the FNX 40 I handled in the LGS. I loved the texture of the grip and the trigger was nice and smooth.

Enjoy your purchase.
