I was in Lincoln, Neb., over the weekend and had a chance to do a little shopping. I needed a pair of boots so I went to the Scheel's Sporting Goods there and picked out what I needed, and then looked at goodies.

I was looking over the display cases and saw the usual line of revolvers and autos -- and then selection of CZ's jumped out: an 83, 75B and then the P-01. Wow. They just started carrying the CZ line after approval from their corporate liability lawyers.

I asked the guy to open the case and upon inspection was immediately impressed with the CZs.

How do these buggers shoot? How do they compare to a Sig 228?

Any negatives. I am in the mood for a mid to small 9mm, something a bit smaller than my outstanding Ruger P95.

Did I mention that the Ruger P-95 was outstanding? Perfect reliability with anything I can shoot in it and as dirty as possible. It is accurate enough, but not a competition gun.

The cost on the P-01 was about $460, a lot less than a Sig.

That might be a bit high. My P-01 now has Hakan grips.
and PT nites..with a 13 shot magazine. it serves as my
home defense pistol. Not many holsters expressly made
for the gun. I prefer Horsehide..and hope to see some
nice CCW designs offered for it very soon.

Pardon me for butting in but I have a question.

What is the difference between the CZ-75 compact, CZ PCR and the CZ P01?

I have only hed the PCR and I think it had a alooy frame. I liked it a lot.

CZF can tell you how they shoot...Ive fondled a couple myself...but havent made the plunge as of yet. I carry my PCR's and think its a better setup for a CCW....I dont see the benefit of the rail in that application....
Its essentially the same gun as the PCR with standard sights, rail, no loaded chamber indicator....pretty much it. Its got a little refining on the inside..but have yet to tear into one to see...
How do they work...function perfectly, accurate as the fullsize guns which gets rave reviews, good sights, outstanding ergonomics, great trigger....against a SIG 228??????????????
Good question...Id say gun for gun my CZ's have rivalled the finest guns Ive shot, carried and owned. Ive shot flawless Sigs..my fav is the 229. Id put them on the Sig level for function, accuracy, sights, fit, parts & warranty work etc...very good. Id put it a tad below the Sig for overall finish quality or general reputation...but thats changing..same with aftermarket support.
Id put it above the Sig for natural pointability and ergonomics...a personal/hand thing....also apeal. Sigs are one of the finest guns in the world..anyone who doesnt think so is smoking there lunch and not sharing  But to me the Cz line in general is something different and in a way refreshing. The guns have character to me...its not an easy thing to put into words...if you pick one up and your hands fall in love...you like the lines..you just have to know what Im talking about.....
Sorry for the ramble...... " Its a great gun!"
Shoot well
P.S. Im working on a horsehide Rig for the PO1....turning out very nice......tease..CZF?

Firestar....good question.

Compact 75 B...a shrunken by 20mm on slide/barrel and 10mm grip length...75B...thats it same everything else...
Steel frame, Cond 1 carry..standard sights...etc.

Compact D PCR...same dimensions as the compact..but alloy frame, front and rear strap serrations, front slide serations, low drag sights, decocker d/a trigger, ext. mag release, loaded chamber indicator, different hammer etc....trick little gun.

PO1 an updated/tweaked PCR....same alloy frame with tactical light rail, standard 75B sights and no loaded indicator....they also have a newer recurved trigger..which really makes the trigger pull much nicer....

Ill attach a pic of all of the versions of the Compact I can find....These 3 are the most common....all equal in popularity in their own right.

Shoot well

I wish they would offer poster for the P-01. I finally found
a holster that fits my 01 with the M-3.

Don Hume makes great holsters. Hope they offer more for
our beloved Cee-Zeds in 2003.

Excellent firearms. I have a PCR that gets a lot of carry. Its a great all around 9MM. I also have the full size CZ-75B that is excellent, but for me more of a range gun due to its size and weight. The PCR is alloy and smaller as others have stated. While I'm sure the P-01 is just as good as a PCR, I just don't "get" the full size, blocky shroud and a rail on this type of weapon. But that's just me.

RE: PCR, holster

I bought a PCR for my wife, she didn't like the short grip on my Glock 26. Anyway, it's my favorite range gun, and it's more accurate than my G26 or G19, at least in my hands.

As for holsters, I use the same holster for the PCR that I use for my G19 and G26, a FIST Kydex IWB (several holster brands made for the G19 will fit the PCR). There is a guy on the CZforum.com who custom makes very nice holsters for the PCR as well.

The CZ connection here in Norcross, GA has the PCR or PO1 listed for $439 last time I checked.

I think the P-01 is a great looking gun but I wish it was available in caliber larger than 9mm. .40 isn't even available.

In fact, as far as I can see none of the CZ compacts are available in anything larger than 9mm. What gives? :scrutiny:

I won't even mention the lack of an ambidextrous compact... :banghead:

I agree, the P-01 is begging to be chambered in 357Sig......come on CZ, chamber it and they will come.

What is the story on magazines for the P-01? Are the other high-capacity CZ magazines capatible with this pistol?

Hey, PCRCCW, that Compact 75D w/ decocker looks a lot like my 75D w/ decocker. :) I guess I should stop shooting so much and get myself a PCR to preserve the gun's value. :D

The compact lightweight CZs are very, very nice guns. They are well balanced and make just about ideal CCW guns. I'd pick the PCR over the P01, but only because I dislike the light rail and prefer the loaded chamber indicator on the PCR. The P01 is still a great piece, though.

Hrere's a PCR underneath a full-sized, steel-framed 75BD.

I've wanted a PCR but my gun shop told me they were discontinued, his distributors list them as discontinued too.

I might end up with a P-01 instead.

CZ lists the PCR in their current catalog. I understand the outcry was loud enough when CZ said they were going to discontinue them that they didn't. I looked at one just this weekend and it was mighty sweet. It says "CZ 74 D Compact" on the slide. The part number is 01194.

The retail 2003 price list also states that a .40 S&W compact should be available in September 2003.

i talked to a gunstore clerk who went to the SHOT show, and he said that the guy from CZ said that a lot of people have been complaining that they don't offer enough caliber variation for all of their different models, so by the end of this year/middle of next year, they should have more calibers out for more models. hope that's true, and i hope it helps!

That's cool... hopefully they'll follow through. I just hope they remember us southpaws...

The "new release 40 Compact" will be a standard steel frame, trad. da w/Cond 1 safety....Compact. It should be here within 2-3 months.....For those who'v been waiting...its straight from CZUSA/CZUB......
Heres a pic of my PCR with PT nights......Ive got an SA with Novaks on it......I like the style of the Novaks better.....
Shoot well

CZ is currently working on several new models, but there is no details when they should hit the market. I have seen pics of prototypes of P-02, which is basically ambi version of P-01 and there are also new stainless models, including the P-02 -like gun (just with heavy stainless frame, unlike the P-01's alloy) in 9mm and also .40. Another stainless modeal I have seen was 9mm compact with rounded trigger, just like the classic seventyfives had. But I say again, these were just pics of prototypes, not all of them may make it to the shops, but most important is, that CZ people do hear you and they are working hard on new stuff! :)

And with regard to night sites - Meprolight make sights for CZ-75, including the old stake-on frontsight models - you may find them on this page (the pics are unsorted, sorry...):
