Which should I get? I held the P-01 at the gun show and it was literally perfect. I went in wanting to also try the SP-01, but none were there. Do the SP-01 and P-01 have the exact same grip dimensions? Is the P-01 harder to modify (i know CZs that have decockers are considered harder to modify)? Will it feel any different than the P-01 (besides the extra weight)? I don't know what I should do!! Ahhhh!

This will be my first handgun.

P-01 felt amazing
75B felt just alright (meh)
So SP-01 will feel ???

I'm not voting because both are great pistols. I'd say, get the least expensive pistol now (Probably the P-01) and save up for the SP-01. You probably should have included a "Both" choice in your poll. :D

I would get a full size pistol if your want to get a centerfire hangun, but would recommend starting with a .22 target pistol. CZ does make a .22 Kadet conversion slide for the 75B, I do not know if it works on the SP01. Starting with a .22 should make you a better pistol shooter, I started with a 9mm and developed some hard to fix shooting habits. Of your two choices I would get the SP01 or a CZ 75B.

Both are good. If is for me, I would get the better one cause I don't have to do so much upgrade.

What do you want to use it for?
Well, mostly only range duty and home defense. I don't think I'll be carrying a handgun for quite a while (its not even a thought right now, really, since i dont have my LTCH), but with the SP-01 it wouldn't really even be a possibility if i suddenly decided to.

I *think* i want the SP-01 especially since it comes with night sights, but unless the grip is the same width wise (dont care about length wise), i'm worried it wont be as OMG comfortable.

No they are not the same grip. The SP-01 is a full size pistol and the P-01 is the compact model same as the D (compact) or PCR or P-06. The SP-01 is more like the CZ 75 B.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was really hoping the grip dimensions (besides length) would be the same! :(

I've already been blabbing on about how the SP01 is better for bigger hands due to the upswept beavertail tang. The P01's tang is certainly better than the stock CZ75, but it is not as upswept as the SP01--so you can't get quite as high of a grip if that matters to you.

Furthermore, the curves in the SP01's palmswell grips make it melt into my hands (as do the '75 grips). But for me, the P01's curves are all in the wrong places, making it feel awkward. The palmswells are the exact thickness from what I remember, but the swells are just located at different heights compared to the tang. I know I could get non-contoured grips for the P01, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a CZ--having that melt-into-your-hand feeling. YMMV...

I still think the P01 is one of the best looking compact pistols available--but in stock form, it is just not for me.

Well, what he means is the grip length is different. The width and depth is pretty much the same. It still feels great, just longer. The mags from the sp01 will fit and function just fine in the p01 but stick out about 3/8" further. A friend of mine needed a third mag for a match we were in and I loaned him one from my 75bd.

Here's why I'm worried about the SP-01:

Love P-01 grips
Indifferent about 75B grips
??? SP-01 grips

:( Wish I could've just found one at the show!

Honestly, the only real difference that I noticed between the two pistol grips is the length of the SP-01. Both have the rail for an added light or laser for home defense. It really depends on your needs, rather than desire. However, if your needs and plans for the pistols are the same, might as well get the SP-01 since it holds more rounds. ;)

I've owned both. The SP01 is a huge 9mm. Fine range gun.

I prefer the 75 Compact. Frame profile is much more IWB friendly. Fine shooter as well.

If you liked the P-01 grip, you will like the SP-01 grip. It's just a bit longer to accomodate more SP-01 is bigger and heavier than the lightweight alloy P-01, but it balances well, and is a fine range, and home defense gun. I voted SP-01, but the P-01 is no slouch either. Tough call for first CZ.

This will be my first handgun.

Since the grip width/grip circumference is virtually identical between the two, I think it comes down to do you want a gun with a manual safety lever or a gun with a decocker?

Most first time pistol owners seem to be more comfortable with a manual safety, unless they have revolver experience.

I have the PCR which is the same size as the P-01. For me, I like the decocker. It is a slick little controlled hammer-drop decocker which I prefer over the slam-the-hammer-down decockers found on some other pistols.

However, the biggest reason I like a decocker is I started on revolvers and I like a long double action trigger pull as my "stress safety". Although, the SP-01 can do the same thing with the hammer down and the safety off, the P-01 will never have to have the safety flicked off first to get into action.

I hope so. Someone told me the grip on the SP-01 is the same as that of the 75B, which i did NOT like! Maybe what i loved about the P-01 was due to the rubber grips, which both the SP-01 and P-01 have, but not the 75B. Hmm...

Neither will do you wrong. If I were you, since you have no plans to carry it, I would go with the full size gun. However one is a decocker and the other has a safety, so if that matters then pick the one that you like better. Grip wise I believe the only difference is the height.

I have the SP-01 with a Streamlight TLR-1 light on it for my HD handgun. With two mags and one in the chamber I have 37 rounds at my disposal, which should be more than plenty if heaven forbid I ever have to use it. It is my favorite pistol by far and is the best natural pointer for me. Sweet pistol.

What are you using it for? The SP-01 should have a similar grip, but longer. The SP-01 has a steel frame so it will be heavier but more durable. It is a fullsize pistol so it won't be as easy to carry concealed, but will offer greater capacity and longer sight radius than the more compact P-01, and will thusly probably make a better bedstand gun.

The P-01 has a alloy frame and would technically be considered a compact. Whereas the SP-01 is available with a safety that allows it to be carried cocked and locked, the P-01 is available with decocker only. I know, it sucks. But CZ has told me the P-02 is slated for the US market in 2013. The P-02 is exactly like the P-01, except it has CZ's Omega trigger system, which allows the user to switch between DA/SA with decocker, and DA/SA with safety. This allows it to be carried cocked and locked.

You're right. I held a P-01 recently and it felt really nice in the hand. It only made me more excited for the P-02, as I abhor decocker only DA/SA handguns. My advice is to wait for the P-02.

ARGH was about to order but I'm nervous the SP-01 will feel more like the 75B which I didnt like than the P-01 which i did like (loved). klajflkajfklaf
