Hakan makes some beautiful grips. I'm glad to see he's offering 1911 grips now. When I get my CZ 75, I'm definitely going to put a pair of Hakan grips on.

Only thing missing from being "Springfield grips" is the option of having gold or silver medallions installed in the grips for that "classic" look.

A humble suggestion to Hakan would be to find someone who could inexpensively cast him some metal or high quality plastic medallions with crossed cannons for Springers, a cursive "K" for Kimbers, and buy or cast the rampant Colt as well. With this simple addition he could probably get away with charging another $15.00 or $20.00 for countersunk and nice looking medallions. A melting process for the material and one good mold for each would be all that he needed. There has to be an out-of-work sculpter or artisan of some sort who could make the reverse face of the mold.

Thanks Folks!

CZF,

Thanks for posting that picture..infact,that was the first 1911 grips I ever made about a year and a half ago.I stopped after that one because I was spooked by the variety of 1911 clones and safety variations. Now, with the help of some friends who are residents here on THR,I'm back in track for the 1911 grips...all I need to know is; the type of the safety,if there is a ambi safety and magwell(pics are great help). If I could only get my hands on a pair of smaller grips(compact 1911s) I'd be making them too but I cannot find them here...I'm willing to make a set in return if some one could send me a pair...any one??(it can be used ones)

Boats,

Using medallions is a very good idea...some one did actually asked me if I could make him a set and insert medallions if he send them..I understand they can be purchased over there...I couldn't find them here.(heck...I can't even find grip screws for my CZ here)

One thing I can do though...I'm going to give it a try to use the bottom of a 9mm S&B bullet like a medallion on the CZ75 grips..I wonder how that would look like???

Thanks ever one for their kind words:)

You go ahead and make up a pair like that and send them to me for evaluation. I'll be sure to spread the good word. ;)

Ohhhh!

I would like a set of those with a dragon on one side.

Can you do the dragon from the Welsh flag? (on 1911 grips)

Somebody has to jump on that offer. If I had one I'd be all over that. Those really are some amazing grips you make there.

Springfield Armory grips?

What's wrong with good old fashion factory Springfield grips? Absolutely, nothing!

Hakan, if you're serious about it...

I've got a rosewood set of checkered Hogues on my Caspian Officer's ACP that can head your direction, I'm kinda partial to that flame birch and cocobolo. Here's what the rosewood Hogues look like on my Caspian:

Well, they're too sharp for one thing. I'm all for a good gripability but I think they make the sharpest (literally, not sharp as in 'cool' or 'sweet') grips around. Too sharp for me.

And, like the saying goes, if you have to ask why to replace with quality grips, you wouldn't understand. ;)

Factory Springfield grips.:barf: I had two pair of grips that came on my two brand new Springfields, turn dark after a month or so. When I said dark I meant it, one pair was almost black, and these were like the ones posted above. I have never had this happen on any other pistol I own! I only got the run around from SA, they didn't care, said it was my fault! I got so pissed off I pitched them both in the trash, and replaced them with Herrett grips. Had I seen the Hakan grips first, that's what my pistols would be wearing.

just the same

I like the grips on my Springfield, even if they are a bit on the sharp side. Springfield is a great gun and next to my Colt a favorite.

Question!

A question regarding the smaller variants of 1911s...

Are all of them using the same dimension grip panels(length/width)?? like the fullsize versions are?Hope someone can tell me that :)

Thanks in advance.

One of the great things about the 1911 is the vast aftermarket, of which you are a part Hakan.

All of the Government and Commander sized 1911s use the same exact grip dimensions (full-size), unless they have been bob-tailed like an Ed Brown Kobra. The cut-down 1911s, the Colt Officer's/Defender, Springfield Micros, and the Kimbers and Para-Ords, all use the same smaller grip dimensions from what I can tell.

You should be able to make two standard templates and the resulting grips should fit every quality 1911A1 of a similar size ever made using English measurements (metric, like the Norincos are reputed to be, is a different matter).

Compact 1911 grips

I'd like to thank everyone who offered to send me a pair of compact size 1911 grips.

Thanks to a fellow THRer, I have a pair now and will make a cocobolo set for him in return.ASA he gets and approves them,I will be offering "Compact 1911 grips".

Thanks again. :)
