For all possible predator hunters who use electronic game calls!

A little background about me. I'm a college student, on a tight budget. So when I was looking to get an electronic game call for some coyote hunting I was appalled at the prices I saw! The most basic Foxpro game call was a whopping $200. Thats not my style... So I ventured into a way to get around this. Make your own!

With a quick stop by my local radioshack and $32 dollars later. I had everything I needed to make my very own electronic game call. That I would not be afraid to sit beside a Foxpro Spitfire in terms of sound quality/ sound volume. (In fact, my homemade one is probably louder). I should run a test to compare to my brothers.

If you are at all interested, please feel free to check out this quick 4min video that I explain how it works and how you can make one yourself! I also show a great place to download free game calls! Just wanting to spread the word that if you are not in a place to spend a lot of money on a call, it is possible to make one yourself. The only difference is that it will not be wireless.. But that does not bother me at this point in time. check it out!

If you need any help with pitch and modulation via capacitance, lemme know...

You can use them for yipe duration , too....

But thats more for stereophonic sound.. not sure if it would work for mono.....thats a pretty spiff setup.

Not bad. But you are getting some really loud feedback that you can hear, even on that vid cam, from that loudspeaker. One reason could be the lengthy speaker wire. Amperage drop from the length will cause feedback (noisy speaker) and seriously degrade the quality of the sound. Another reason is you are using a "bullhorn" type speaker. Way to much treble because of the bell cone. The way this guy set it up will produce a much cleaner sound. Just touch it off and move about 25 to 40 yards away from it to cover. It's a good idea to get a little distance with the controller but not if you are sacrificing sound quality that will get picked up on by the yotes. They are smarter than most give credit for and get "call educated" VERY fast.

Heh. WalMart once had a blow-out sale on "baby boom-boxes". Somewhere around $12 or $14. Hey, such a deal! I had a rabbit tape from the Burnham brothers.

Drove out, stopped the truck, reached around and set the boom-box on the hood and turned it on. I hadn't even gotten fully situated back in my seat with my rifle in hand when a coyote showed up about twenty feet away.

World's dumbest coyote? I dunno. But, since he was on the driver's side of the truck, it was his mistake...

Hey not a bad idea either!

I've used electronic calls, but recently have went back to the old mouth calls, just one less thing I need to carry around.

Me being extremely new to calling just wanted something that works.

But I really should buy some mouth calls and practice to get good with them. I'll agree that technology is not always the answer! I just wish that I had been around more "hunters" growing up, and could have picked up on all the cool tricks of the trade so to speak when it comes to these kind of things..

In the southwest, jackrabbit calls work. Ol' Jack is a bit lower toned than a cottontail. I have had success with the Burnham Brothers tapes, but don't know if those are still available.

I have a very old Olt brand mouth call which is great. Depending on how you cup your hands, and the strength of your blowing, you can imitate all manner of hurt little critters. :)

The main thing with a cheap boom box is the speakers. You can always wire in an external speaker acquired from a garage sale or some such. Disconnect the internal speaker.

Make a spool on which to store the speaker wire for the remote location setup.

Practice lip-squeaking like a mouse. Works on close-in critters. I got a fox in close enough one time to boink him in the nose with my boot toe. :D The way his hair stuck out, he looked like a giant bottle brush. :D:D:D He practiced being elsewhere at a fantastic rate of speed...
