I was wondering when S&W would come out with a slim pistol. Too bad they only come with manual safeties. No unnecessary safeties is one thing I've always liked about the M&P line.

@ GunNut

Can you give us a range report on your new "Shield"

I haven't seen one yet.

Put 94 rounds through it yesterday just after picking it up, other 6 went in my buddies Kimber Solo.

Fired it at 7 yards using both a two hand and one hand strong & weak side grip. Two handed I was able to do a nice 3-4" hole slightly left and low, strong side one hand went into the same area. Weak hand shooting which I rarely practice with was on the target, was mostly doing it to test the gun out.

The gun is a joy to shoot with either the flush or extended magazine, and compared to shooting the Kimber Solo it was a breeze. I've heard some many things about the Solo that I had to try it, but it's not really a pocket gun to me.

Hoping to get up to the range again on Sunday or Monday to put more rounds through it.

I have an M&P-40 compact and it is an awesome shooter and it has quite mild recoil for a little 40.

All shooting done at 14 yards:

Range Trip 1

Shot three 50 round boxes 180 grain Magtech, two 50 round boxes of 180 grain cheap Federal from Wally World, one 50 round box of Winchester Ranger 180 grain BCHP, and a 20 round box of Hornady Z-max ammo. Didn't have a single problem!!!

165 grain Z-max ammo:

Range Trip 2

The weird thing is that my XDm 9mm is larger, has a longer barrel, and a smaller caliber. And yet I find the .40S&W M&P-40 compact is easier to shoot and group well with and it seems like it is faster on target and I can shoot it faster. And here is the M&P-40c again at 14 yards with 165 grain Hornady Z-maxx ammo:

I'm diggin the new Shield! I really want one in 9mm, but have to find a reason to add it to the stable. At the moment I have every gun I NEED, wanting is another story. ;)

I did owm a M&P9 but had to sell it for finacial reasons. Now I am ready to replace it and am looking to get the M&P9 Pro Series 5'' barrel. How dose the pro series? is it worth it or just get the regular?

Well i have been looking and can not find the M&P9 pro 5'' any where. My local dealer has the .40 pro series in stock.

My dilema is should I take the .40 or wait till i can find the 9mm. im afraid if i wait for the 9mm they may ban the 18rnd mags before i get one.

I will be using this gun for fun at the range and maybe some competiton when I get a bit better at keeping a tight group.

I do own a shield in .40 cal so I already have to purchase ammo for that.
I just hate to wait so i want to jump on the .40 . Would it be worth the wait for the 9mm?

Of course you're not finding one now. ;)

At this point I would just wait and keep looking. The gun ban hysteria is starting to die down and the truth is coming out about Sandy Hook.
