If you do not or have not owned one of these revolvers then please do not chime in with your opinions of Taurus firearms. Thank you.

For those who own a 605 (.357) or 85 (.38 spl) five shot revolver...regardless of barrel length... do you like it, love it, hate it, trust it with your life etc?

The Taurus website claims that these are only the two revolvers that have a zero tolerence policy for quality control in order to insure that they are going to work every time in order to save a life due to the fact that Taurus recognizes that these are the most popular CCW guns they offer.

As for me, I own a 605 and do trust my life to it. I find it to be second best to only the finest revolvers in terms of fit finish and cost. Loaded with 5 rounds of 100 gain Cor-Bon Pow-R-Ball it shoots just like full size 9mm. No recoil and as accurate as one could expect a snubbie to be. Plus, unlike S&W, the lock is in the hammer, therefore can be removed simply by changing hammers if I ever felt the need to, but I have had no problem, so why bother?

Thanks for your input

The taurus 85 and 605 were nthe only taurus
revolvers i owned that didn't have problems.
My 65 shot very low, ended up removing most
of the front sight to get it to shot POA but
only with 158gr loads.My 606 had a cylinder
that would rotate back one chambered when
fired with 357mag ammo, that one went back
to the store.

I have a 605 & a 608,both stainless and have never had a problem with either. I have owned a 66 {blued} and had no problems with it either. I would not hesitate to buy another Taurus{ will probably be buying a Tracker in .22 LR very soon}

Where does it say that??

Anyways, I've technically owned an 85UL as I bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend. The same friend goes to the range as a guest on my membership, so I've been present every time the gun has been fired and I've had the opportunity to shoot it myself. It has functioned 100% reliably so far.

My own 650 has also been 100% reliable despite being fed nothing but magnum rounds (I'll admit, it sees alot of 110gr loads). It's one of my favorite handguns that I've owned and I don't have a problem trusting my life to it.

MOD 85 UL

I had one my niece fell in love with it and i lost it. Very reliable and accurate. I miss it do and just before i let her have it i put a set of crimson trace lasers and i could practically shave a fly from 20ft. Shot the hell out of it with +p no problems. Its been the gun i regret getting rid of but i feel good since its protecting someone i love. Im waiting for that magnesium taurus is putting out to see how it feels.

For the times when I want a smaller easy to carry gun, I'm quite happy with this little steel frame 85. It works every time, it's smooth and has a very good trigger in both single and double action mode.

605

had owned 85 15 years ago sold and got sp101 loved them both sold sp for
pt111 had it two months and sold bought ported blue 605 sunday went from gun show to range nice trigger shoots point of aim with speer 135gd and went bang every time 60 rounds. will increase round count signifigantly this weekend:) :) :)

I love my 2 in. all steel 85.
It has the smoothest da trigger I have ever used, is dead on accurate, functions flawlessly even when dirty, and, conceals perfectly in a Don Hume IWB.

I had a 605 that I liked very much. The cylinder pin broke during a long session of .357 shooting. Taurus repaired it; turnaround was about 4 weeks. I had to pay shipping.

I had an 85UL that I had to exchange the day I bought it--the original one I purchased (NIB) had a broken hand and a damaged trigger mechanism, which made it useless. The Gander Mountain I bought it from replaced it immediately when I showed them the issue; I guess they sent the defective one back to Taurus. The second one was fine, although I had to sell it during tight times.

Had an 85ch. Very nice shooter. First gun my daughter ever fired (age 12 at the time, she liked it!). Sold it to a very good friend about 10 years ago. He still has it and carries it. I got a Ruger SP101 for the .357 option. I think he shoots +P's in it.

Have a Taurus 85 UL. Never a problem. VERY accurate for a 2-incher (better than my SP101 3" for accuracy).

The older Taurus Model 85s (circa '80s) were definitely good guns, fully the equal of the Smith counterparts, maybe even better. Yes, I owned one. It shot to POA with 158gr JHP. The current offerings are less reliable, unfortunately.

I own a 605 and have it by my bedside every night.

Great gun; wouldn't change a thing about it. It's a bit "brisk" with full-house magnum loads so don't get too enthusiastic! The things I like about it are: it's stainless, it will accept .357 loads (though .38 +P are more comfortable), it's small enough to slip into khaki pants pockets, it's more accurate than I am at 25 yards (did I mention that .357 loads are brisk?) and, of course, it doesn't have a muzzle compensator so it's quieter than those compensated abominations. Mine has the 2.5 inch snubby barrel so it hides easily. Very nice workmanship all around.

I still say to buy one -- nice revolvers, and that's after about 8 years of owning it. Highly recommended.

I have owned six model 85's thus-far in my lifetime....still have a UL and a 3" model 85 in the safe. I think highly of Taurus and have had no issues with any of them, what-so-ever.

- regards

I own a number of different Taurus snubbies ...

... the 605, the 85ULCH and the 650. They are slightly bigger than the S&W J-frame but they also fit my hand better. I also like their built-in lock. If I ever have to leave my gun when entering a place that does not allow firearms, I can secure the gun with the built-in lock. Also, unlike the built-in lock on the S&W revolvers which have been know to engage by themselves during shooting, the way the Taurus locking system is designed, something like that can never happen.

If you're looking for a well built revolver, look to Taurus first

... their autloaders, on the other hand, are a different story

in my opinion.

Didn't know about the zero tolerance policy on these revolvers.

I did own an 85 some years ago and yes, I would have bet my life on it. It was stainless and I wish I still had it. I especially appreciate the fact that out of the box it had very nice, comfortable grips and a decent trigger pull. The finish also was beautiful.

It was the only Taurus revolver I didn't hate. I later sold it and carried a Rossi M88 stainless. It had a 3-inch barrel and I liked that better.

I've owned a number of Taurus revolvers over the years. I still own two, one of which is an 85.
Of those revolvers, 4 were 85's: 2 SS with exposed hammer, 1 SS with concealed hammer, 1 Multi-Alloy with exposed hammer). I actually bought the concealed hammer gun for my Mom.
Still own and carry the Multi-Alloy. In fact, it's my "go everywhere" gun. I wish I'd kept the concealed hammer gun too.
I must admit, the Multi-Alloy did have a severe problem with light strikes initially. The factory corrected this quickly and it's very reliable now.

So, in response to your questions, I do really like Taurus revolvers. I especially like, and trust, my 85 Multi-Alloy.

However, with any gun (possible exception Glock 9mm's), I do think a couple hundred rounds through it before using it as a CCW is a good idea.

I bought my wife a taurus 85 UL and we both like it,very accurate and reliable.I trust it for the most part.

I owned the Taurus 617 (7 shot .357 snub nose), and the Taurus 85 .38 special and they were both great guns. I liked the versatility of the .357 magnum cartridge but the 7 shot cylinder was a bit cumbersome when carrying inside the waistband. The Taurus 85 was a great gun for concealed carry. I carried that one daily when working in a convenience store and it hid very well. It's also easier to find holsters for the M-85 / M-605.

I love mine. Always carry as a backup as well as primary substitute when unable to carry the .45

Only problem I have had is the Firing pin spring got binned up after excessive dry firing to smooth out trigger. I know I should have used snap caps. Now I know. :banghead:

This is my favorite handgun. because I always have it.

I own a Taurus 85 with CH and carry it always. It's never failed me and accurate as all hell. I shoot 158g WC's that I hand load and at 7 yards will group 2 - 3". I also own a Taurus Tracker in 357 and have many problems with the cyliners either locking up or freely revolving. It's now growing roots in Taurus repair but that's another long and frustrating story altogether. Me? I don't think I would ever purchase another Taurus. The price is attractive but the guns are unreliable overall. Additionally the customer service stinks. Both guns however are very accurate and the tracker is easy to hold. I think the tracker is one of the most comfortable guns I've ever held and shot, and I have S&W and Ruger also, but the horror stories concerning Taurus are far too many. Remember, you get what you pay for. I would be very leary of purchasing another Taurus. all guns have problems, especially if they're shot often, but Taurus seems to have more than it's share and again the CS stinks.

As far as you saying they have a zero tolerance policy on this gun - and I don't know where it says that, let me ask you - why not on all guns? That's the way it's supposed to be. That's like saying the air bags will only work in certain cars since people who drive other models aren't as important to save!

Tread carefully in staking your life on a Brazilian owned company.

My wife carries one, Most of our weekends are spent out in the woods, she just carrys it in her pocket. Never failed to fire, she uses standard 158 gr lead round nose.
