For those of us that have always thought those Air Force guys were a bit sissy

Wasn't pink explored back in the early '90s as part of a camouflage pattern? It's suppose to be good during sunrise/sunset. BTW, the Royal Navy adopted "Mountbatten Pink" as part of its camouflage scheme for the Med. Sea.

Chromed out 20"s
12" bumps in the trunk
switch out that interior for some white and pink mercedes leather

I'd say the Air Force is trying to build the first flying Hoopdie (sp)

Bling Bling Zoomies

I think a few pre-WW2 ships had a pink pattern to them, along with bizarre zebra-like stripes to break up their outline.

Also, 3 color desert BDU's have a faint pink component that actually helps blend well in the desert environment.

During the North Africa camaign in WW2 we had many pink aircraft. they were initially painted a shade of tan but the sun faded it to a shade of pink. There are several warbirds around painted that way.

Did you not read the entire story or do you have trouble with understand what was written?

At one point, the U.S. Air Force ran some extensive tests and concluded the color that best hid an aircraft in flight was a shade of pink. The results of this effort were never implemented.

Thus while the results were that pink hid an aircraft in flight best they NEVER IMPLEMENTED the paint scheme.

Besides, if they had would you laugh and joke about it if it saved one human life?

And yes, I'm a 20 year USAF enlisted puke (now retired)

Yes we spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel. In WWII the brits found that "pink" worked very well as a desert color. Also in WWII the navy painted it's planes two tone ,light blue grey underneath(hard to see against the sky) and dark blue top ( hard to see against the sea).

Well now Mr post count moderator, what makes you think a low or high post count has any bearing on anything other than you're a bag o wind who likes to hear you're own voice.

Just for you're info I was a TFL member since 06-28-1999 and only had 418 posts. Post counts are something loosers and wankers put great importance in.

No Joey, post count actually counts for squat ... the emphasis I should have placed was on ASCERBIC .... which you have now satisfactorily reinforced by your response. Just not very ''THR'' (or TFL come to that).

And goodnight to you Sir.:)

Wouldn't that be insult to injury when a guy in a pink plane bombs the crap out of you.

Maybe pink planes lead nowhere but I did check out the story link and gathered a bit more interesting information. Following articles treated the AF pretty well, I thought. My son's at Eglin, so I follow those things.

That's the great thing about this forum. You learn a lot in spite of everything.

I seem to recall reading a quote from one of the engineers on the Have Blue (F-117?) program that pastels are the best camoflauge colors, but "real men don't fly pink aircraft." Go figure. Personally, I can't wait to see photosensitive camoflauge. THAT will be an advancement.

Pink would be a refreshing change of pace.

Non-agressive gray and white is kinda blah after 10 years or so. Better than the older dove gray, I guess. Of course, they could just wait a couple more years to paint my ride that shade, I'll be retired by then... ;)

Looks rather familar, that was my 1st base, was there from Mar 83 to Feb 89 and did lots of time on the ramp:p :p :p :p

HABU ... thank you Sir!! How very right you are. My sole excuse is that it's not a word I use too often and .. ''s'' and ''c'' are very close on keyboard!

(if ya believe that excuse - you'll believe anything!):p :)

IIRC during WWII b-24's in Libya and Eqypt were painted "sand pink". It was reported to be extremely effective. The B-24's that took part in the Poesti raid were painted this color.

YES, I READ IT!!!

Joey - You would think after 20 years you would have been able to recognize a little jab of interservice rivalry being posted by a guy from the army ribbing the airforce.
It was a joke.
