I know you guys like plain jane vanilla 1911's.....................BUT!
One of these days I'll show a gun that will get a response from you.
I drive a 1974 Chevy K10 that looks like a train wreck, but I can still smile at that 75K Hummvee!;)
So here goes nuttin'!

Just finished this one.:)
Springer WW2 model.
Grips by Larry Davidson.

Impressive!

Not exactly Old School, but classic in its own right.

All of my personal 1911 style pistols are not "plain vanila" though, it's simply that they're not garish or overhung with superfluous gadgets. Neither is the pistol you pictured.

The best work can always be identified by the way small details are handled.

Purtiful Thangs

Love the melt job. Reminds me of a 1913 Colt that I used to know.
Also like the early scallop design on the slide. Looks like a 1916 Springfield
that I've lusted after for about 10 years...whose owner is a real hard case
and refuses to sell for less than my first-born.

For the record...Never said that I don't admire the work of the masters. Seen some real works of art, and especially yours. (Havin' a toolmakin' background, I always appreciate skill in steel...and can spot it at a glance.) I just prefer a plain ol' slabsides or WW2 USGI or equivalent for my OWN use.

Speakin' of work...I just got done with a Chinese pistol that turned out right good. Kinda proud of it, if I may toot the ol' bugle a bit. Had to beat on the frame with a hammer to get the top-end down far enough to get .049 vertical lock on the Kart barrel.(No. Didn't use an Easy-Fit) Draw-filed the top of the frame to remove all traces of the hammer and the bottom of the slide to get it into the rails. Lowered it .010 inch total...Got two lugs hittin' solid with the third one juuuuuuuust barely kissin'...which should come to the game with a few proof rounds...and maintained a static headspace of .900 inch with the pin hittin' as dead center as my eye can see. Pullin' hard, the gun has nearly zero up/down or sideplay slide to frame...and if ya oil it a little, there's exactly zip. Yep. Squeezed on the slide about .003 inch. Finish-lapped and got'er slick like goose grease. Only one mag through it so far to test function...Too dang cold to wring it out in the early hours today, so I gotta wait for Friday to roll around.

Got lucky on this one. The slide lugs' locations spec-ed out close to the barrel's. Didn't have to whittle on'em much to get all hittin'.

'Fraid it still looks like a box-stock Norinco though...so I reckon it won't make the cover of Guns'n' Ammo.:(

Nice work Chuck! Kudos!

Rogersprecision,

What a bueatiful gun you have created. I love the melt job you performed on the frame and I like the way you chamfered the bottom of the slide. That really dresses up the gun. The only thing I dislike about your gun, and most modern 5" guns, is the forward cocking serations. To me, (this opinion and .75will get you a decent cup of coffee) thpse front serations break up the lines of the design. I have a stainless Champion that I am working on for carry and performing some of the same melts you have done. I rolled the bottom of the slides edges but the chamfer or bevel really looks sharp. Might reconsider my plan.

Thanks for sharing your magnificient work with us.

Thanks for the nice comments.:)
The finish is Gun-Kote over manganese phosphate (parkerizing).
I like the Gun-Kote products a lot, but I'm going to experiment with Norrell's
Moly-Resin and NIC's CeraCoat as well.
