I'm building a 6.5 swede bolt action rifle. It is a Savage 111 .270 rebarreled to a 6.5 swede all to SAAMI spec. My question is can I shoot the cheap PPU ammo to break in the barrel and to get brass to reload. My barrel, brass, bolt face, and dies are all made to SAAMI spec and I think the PPU ammo is made to the old CIP spec. Will shooting the PPU be bad for my rifle.

Thanks for the help I know someone has to know the answer I've used my Google fu for days and can't find what I'm looking for.

I can't answer your specific question about specs, but I can share my experience. At various times I've shot the PPU ammo in a Swedish M96, a Winchester 70, and modern Tikka, Sako, and Steyr hunting rifles, and I've reloaded the brass for all those guns. It hasn't harmed any of them. It's very good brass, by the way, much better than Federal, about on a par with Norma.

Thanks Limey BTW could you tell me what the case head diameter for the PPU brass is. My donor action is a .270 that will feed a .473 case head and I think the 6.5x55 is .480 case head. I know the American brass will feed as its based off a .30-06 case head.

I'm wondering if I'll have issues feeding/extracting the PPU brass. Thanks again.

I have some PPU brass for my 6.5x55 and it is the same as Lapua (larger than 270 Win.) If the bolt face you are using is for the 270 Win. you will have to use domestic brass such as Rem., Win. A least that has been my experience.

My PPU brass is .480. So is my Lapua. My new Federal factory ammo is .473.

See if the Prvi brass will fit in the bolt face as is. If not, opening the bolt face a few thousanths is not a big deal. If the Prvi fits the bolt, cycle a round up from the mag. You'll find your own answer.best

Try to and see if it works. If you need brass for it I have more American 6.5x55 brass than I can sneeze at and I'll never use it in my Mausers.
