Founder of Minutemen targets run for president
Jim Gilchrist eyes bid with Constitution Party, claims Republicans 'sold out our sovereignty'
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=49985

Jim Gilchrist

Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, is considering a run for president in 2008 representing the Constitution Party.

Gilchrist has just returned from Florida where he met with the party's national committee.

Chairman James Clymer told WorldNetDaily the party was excited about the possibility of Gilchrist as its marquis candidate.

"Yes, indeed, we are interested," Clymer said. "Gilchrist spoke to us last weekend in Tampa and our people asked Jim then if he would be the candidate. We think it would be wonderful if Jim Gilchrist would seriously consider being our presidential candidate."

Sounds interesting... Depending on his other views of course.
Does he have a realistic chance?

To keep this gun related..and get some facts...

The CP is as pro-gun as the LP. http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php#Gun Control

WhiteHorse, one thing you totally miss about the CP, is that because of the inherent belief in Almighty God, they won't go for infringing your rights. Why won't they pull a Muslim on you? Because it is our belief, that God made man free, and if man is meant to be free, we shouldn't go changing that.

They are not going to force the Bible down anyones throats. If they did, I would certainly be ticked. But here is their plank on Religious freedom (and everything else).

When I think Constitution Party, I tend to think Pro-Life Libertarian. I read the entire platform in 04, and did see anything that would force you to read/accept/support some Church. Yes, there is a strong Christian backbone to the party, but that doesn't mean we are going to force you to convert.

Despite the MSM attempts, one should not confuse Conservative Evangelical gun-owning Christians (me, and a lot of other guys like me) with the crazy Muslims, who view it as 'convert or else'. We are not the same, nor are our methods.

And one last note, the Bible contained only 10 laws handed down from God. Man went and added many more.

It is also worth noting, that Christ told his disciples to be armed. A truly Christian party = a good party for gun-owners.

So, would that be FREE to choose abortion if their convictions tell them it's okay?

FREE to live a gay lifestyle in the same manner and with all the same rights as a hetero person if they deem that to be morally okay?

Those are moral decisions as well, dictated by a person's personal belief system whether you want to refer to it as religion or not.

The CP won't ask you to convert...just adhere to their interpretation of morality based on biblical teachings.....

Yeah...big difference....

...3...2...1...closed.

You guys just can't leave it be when religion or abortion is brought up can you?

Greg

depending on the rest of his platform I would not consider this a wasted vote, unlike a vote for mccain or clinton would be.

Constitutional Party platform on gun control
http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php#Gun Control

Gun Control
The right to bear arms is inherent in the right of self defense, defense of the family, and defense against tyranny, conferred on the individual and the community by our Creator to safeguard life, liberty, and property, as well as to help preserve the independence of the nation.

The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution; it may not properly be infringed upon or denied.

The Constitution Party upholds the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. We oppose attempts to prohibit ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens, and stand against all laws which would require the registration of guns or ammunition.

We emphasize that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them. In such circumstances, the peaceful citizen's protection against the criminal would be seriously jeopardized.

We call for the repeal of all federal firearms legislation, beginning with Federal Firearms Act of 1968.

We call for the rescinding of all executive orders, the prohibition of any future executive orders, and the prohibition of treaty ratification which would in any way limit the right to keep and bear arms.

I have a aquestion. Does that mean that if their guy runs & wins, we all can get class 3 guns like buying a 2 liter Mountain Dew from Lowes foods? If yes, then YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!:D

Sounds like a plan to me... if you aren't having any success with the Libertarian Party then obviously the right move is to add platform planks that make you less appealing to the 0.3% of the vote you were receiving as the LP and split that tiny share of the vote even further.

From your link:
The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries.

The idea that American jurisprudence has Biblical foundations is absolutely wrong. Professing such a belief shows either a profound lack of understanding of the subject or willful ignorance caused by religious faith. I don't want people with either one of those to be in charge.

Yet.

See, I do believe power corrupts.

Unless you consider the Old Testament not part of the Bible, that is not true.

However, if we do limit the Biblical influence on government to the Ten Commandments, we still have problems. For instance, "Thou shall have no gods before me" would be patently unconstitutional.

I sense that most on this Board are 30 or younger. Why is it that so many of you Youngsters fear GOD & his Ten Comandments? Most of America's Laws including the Right To Keep & Bear Arms are based on Biblical Principals.

it is not that we fear your GOD and his commandments.

we just dont believe that any of it is real.

I was raised a christian, so this is not my parents "fault". I guess you could blame it on my godless university education (alot of my electives were anthropology/religion based... i had my eyes opened to the big picture)

I agree with everyone else, a vote for rep. or dem. is a waste.
I will be voting Libertarian this election.
