hi, does anyone have a digital manual or parts diagram for a franchi 48

my friend has one and it wont feed a round into the chamber. like something is missing and not tripping the shell stop/shell retainer/ what ever you want to call it that lets the shell out of the magazine.

i already fixed his dads 500 ( broken extractor jamed the action) so now i gotta fiz the franchi and i have no technical knowledge of franchis besides what i can gather from looking at it

Judging from the blurb on Franchi USA's customer service page, they have PDF manuals, but haven't posted them online yet. Maybe a phone call or e-mail will get one for you in advance.

well if anyone can even give me a description of how the action SHOULD work, id be most greatfull. as i said to JNewell it seems to do everything normal EXCEPT release a round from the magazine. so id like to know what trips the shell release. if you dont have a manual, a decent explination would be awesome. or even a crude MS paint diagram

This is a short recoil action not an inertia action (not sure if that would affect what you're expecting) - it should be basically the same as an A5 because it's a copy of that design. The manual of arms on the 48AL is not what you might expect. You draw the bolt back, insert a shell into the chamber, then close the bolt by pressing the bolt release button on the left side of the receiver. Then you insert shells into the magazine (make sure the last one is forward of the latch). The manual has the following note:

Automatic Cut-Off

The Franchi automatic will not feed shells from magazine to chamber by manual pumping of the breech bolt because it is designed with an automatic cut-off. When the chamber is empty you may then rest assured that it is impossible for the barrel to reload even if the breech closes accidentally.

That may be what you're seeing? (The "impossible" idea notwithstanding, I think I'd keep Ronald Reagan's maxim in mind and "trust, but verify.")

ok so it will only load a round if it ejects a round. it will not load a round from the magazine unless it pulls a round fromt he chamber first.

You are both correct. The 48AL will only feed from the mag if a round is fired. The first round must be hand loaded into the receiver and the bolt let go home. I thought this was unsusal at first but after having one for a few years I have become used to the routine.
