In my latest CCRKBA newsletter, there is an article concerning the F
OP's support of the Tihart Ammendment. The chairman of the FOP has come out in support of it and has testified to congress concerning its benefits. The ATF is also on board with the Tihart Ammendment. I think this is a good thing, an organization that represents rank and file police coming out in support of this.

Contrast this to the mighty emperor Bloomberg who is lobbying Congress to omit the Tihart Ammendment, so he can sue gun makers and dealers, despite the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. Bloomberg has friendly judges that will allow the lawsuits to proceed. Bloomberg even had the nerve to say that the FOP was a "fringe organization"! Lets hope the Dem's are not successfull in ommiting the Tihart Ammendment.

Wait... huh? That (honestly) makes no sense. If they can't nail honest citizens to the wall anymore (at least in such high numbers), then what're they going to do? They've already demonstrated an unwillingness to go after real firearm criminals - you know, traffickers from Mexico.

This specific quote I found to be the most unsettling:

The campaign to repeal the "Tiahrt amendment" has enlisted police chiefs and organizations which represent them and used them to claim that the prohibitions on the use of the firearms trace data is hampering local and State efforts to combat illegal firearms and several have gone so far as to say that ATF refuses to share the firearms trace data with law enforcement agencies pursuing a criminal investigation. Neither of these claims are true, but chiefs have little choice but to support the political position of their mayors at whose pleasure they serve.

Further, it is important to note that at no time prior to the attacks made on the FOP did Mayor Bloomberg or any member of his administration reach out to the FOP to hear our perspective. Given the Mayor's comments and his general attitude, we can only assume this is because the FOP is a labor organization.

I actually called the Brady Bunch to discuss their objections to this amendment. ( Like it would do any good )

Their representative told me that the Tiahrt Amendment allows for only ONE gun to be researched per bona fide investigation. Can any LEO's confirm/deny/modify this for me? Seems like there would be a way to find out if multiple guns came from the same source.

The FOP, like any other union or labor organization, supports laws and policies that favor its wants and needs. These just happen to dovetail with the RKBA folks on this item.

The funny thing is just how wide Bloomie opened his yap in protest.

If you feel up to it I would suggest calling back and asking what part of the Tiahart Amendment does that.

The disclosure of the trace information to Bloomberg & Co. for their civil suits would make it available to anyone else, including criminals, and could put undercover agents from the BATFE and local undercover officers at risk, which is why the BATFE and the FOP support the Tiahart amendment. That is why Bloomberg has his undies in a bunch over it and the Brady bunch continues to put out inflammatory, false statements concerning the amendment.

It also links the BATFE's funding to some restrictions on what they can do with purchase data from legal firearm sales.

Sure it does---they (ATF folks) want to keep a tighter grip on data (power) that they see as their rightful domain and area of expertise. At least that's how I see it. I agree more with their position than to allow free-ranging enforcers and litigators to just play fast and loose and put legitimate investigations of the ATF at risk. They're spending our tax dollars -- I'd like to see them enabled to get some bad guys.
