About a month ago I was at the local GS when the owner of Freedom arms came in with a new revolver in a case, I listnend in on him talking and he said it was gonna be available in 2015 its a nice looking 6" barrel 7 or 8 shot cal. 22-327. He has necked the 327federal down to a bottle necked 224 cal. To shoot your typical AR Bullets. Its the 22-327 Freedom, I can't remember his numbers exactly but it was fast. Anyone else heard anything on this?

It would be interesting to see, but I expect it to be a very small niche. There are already similar offerings out there with very limited popularity.

I think Freedom makes the finest revolvers in the world and am always looking for more of their stuff.

That said, I'm not sure I'm into this idea. .327 (possibly a dead/dieing round) necked down to .22 I don't think is for me.

Will see though, I have been wrong many times before (ask my Wife).

I wonder as to the practicality of the caliber.

Will one need to start with a .327 FC case to build these or will any of the other .32 offering of the past fit the bill?

If things are gonna be weird - why not neck it down to a .243 or .25 caliber and save some geometry. Fella's already gonna be buckin' the trends with the .32. Also keep it away from some of those .22 hunting restrictions.

Reminds me of the old days of "bench rest" insanity. Don't give me that look! You remember, some of you are no doubt guilty!

If the .22 Remington Jet was a failure what makes Freedom Arms thing a 22-327 will make it? .327 Federal Brass is very rare and .357 Magnum brass wasn't so that's an added pitfall.

What the heck is the owner of Freedom Arms in Wyoming doing in eastern Oklahoma peddling guns in a little LGS???

The cartridge in question has been around for at least three or four years. It's called the 224-32 FA, and is a 327 Federal magnum case which has been shortened and necked down to .224.

Muzzle velocity is on the order of 2200 feet per second. Here's an example of a group at 100 yards:

By way of full disclosure, the gun was equipped with a 2X6 scope in order to attain this group.

So it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.224-32_FA

Since it's still too long to be constructed from .32 H&R mag... I wonder if a fella could build it from .32-20 brass?

I guess with the direct ejection of a SAA clone that the bottle neck issues will be significantly less.

Pretty little cartridge, that one.

As long as you keep the chambers dry and remove all the sizing lube from the case, case setback isn't a problem. I usually tumble loaded rounds to make sure all the case lube is removed.

I saw him in ft.smith ark, he had come from walther arms factory over to a gunsmith that is very well known and has his name on several succesfull cartridges, probably a million dollar facility not a mom&pops GS . What we do is our livlyhood and taken very seriosly. I geuss the mans input was somewhat important to freedom arms owner . Also I am not positive it wasn't a 6mm-327 . He wasn't talking to me and im not sure I should be talking about it either..But I am.. OK so I did get it right its. 224-327

That cartridge is 5 years old according to the link above, if it's correct. That's hardly new and not coming in 2015.

I was interested in the 327 Fed for a small carry revolver with a 5 shot cylinder but I guess I'm the only one.

It will be new when you see it for sale for the first time at a gun retailer or in a magazine.. I suppose he's been working on this for a while.. and yes athough he got the rights to the cartidge in 2009 it has taken 5yrs to perfect the pistol that the mentioned cartridge was developed for. Not my fault freedom didn't throw a pistol together 30 days later to sell you piece of %-&@+&# .. Freedoms is gonna be top of the line gun and a lot of homework and testing goes on not to mention actually owning the patent on that cartridge. I geuss some people do not now what it takes or how long it takes to build a cartridge and a fine firearm to fire it... load development and exceptional firearm building takes a little time.. has anyone of you people that keep knocking it now anything about Developing new loads and firearms and all the BS in between.. hey maybe Ruger could do it faster then you would have a Ruger. Far from Freedoms.

The 327 has been a standard chambering with Freedom for a while now. With the strength of the casing, 45k MAP, it is not surprising that someone would try to do something with it. I have never seen a bad FA revolver so I would expect this one to perform as well.

Should make for a fantastic varmint cartridge for handgun hunters. Certainly not for plinking or banging away at the indoor range.

Funny how .327 brass is always unavailable according to those with no interest in the cartridge. Anyone interested could've ordered it from Freedom Arms at almost any point in its history. It's been in stock at Graf's for months. I ordered 500rds back when the Single Seven was announced.

...possibly a dead/dieing round...
It's not dead or dying but folks NOT buying one because they think it's "dead or dying" can make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. I never understood this. And it's not like it won't function just fine as a .32H&R or .32S&W Long.

I think this would make a good round for handgun hunting of varmints/small game.

What are the energy numbers on this little cart?

I think this is gonna be Freedom's version of the 22TCM made by RockRiver Arms only the freedoms version will be a little more powerfull and from a 7or8 shot revolver velocity is gonna be about 2,500fps Depending on barrel length I don't now about the energy, I suppose barrel length would play a role in that too.. im sure their will be plenty of prarie dogs explode to the little beast, probably be pretty accurate with a 10" barrel and scope. We'll see im going to see him on the 7th of jan in person again and im gonna talk to him for more details.

Hope they are making this one with replaceable forcing cones.

I've had several Jets and shot one of them out.

If the cylinder gap is as tight as it is on my .454, then maybe the forcing cone will hold up a little longer.

I think the .327 Federal would be great in a SAA type revolver and in a companion Carbine. It would have plenty of power for Varmints and Coyotes on the farm or for woods carry. (think 32-20 Win.)

The good thing about a small pocket carry revolver, it would be 6 rounds, not 5 because of the smaller diameter cartridge.
