Not a freemason

Was asked once by a dear older friend.

I found out later I would not "fit" due to my being an agnostic.

I was not upset by this, just mildly amused.

My 80 year old father just recently admitted to having been a Mason when he was in his 20's. Apparently it wasn't for him. My first encounter with a Mason was a coworker who refused to divulge anything other than the fact that he was one. That pretty much turned me off to the organization. I belong to five organizations...VFW, American Legion, AmVets, NRA and AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). Ask me about any of them and I'll tell you all I know. No secrets there. Once interesting thing about Masonic Lodge buildings...they don't seem to have windows. Maybe newer ones do, but there is a part of each building where the general public can't ever look in. But all my local lodges are four walls and a doorway.

Calling the religious stupid and easily scammed is very High Road of you.

This kind of behavior has turned many people away from Free Masonry. My uncle refused to talk about things you could read about in your local library(which is most of Free Masonry).

You'll have to take my word that this is not meant to be derogatory to you, but to me it indicates a restriction on lower limits of intelligence and/or faith.

Therefore, I take it as a positive.

Some of the greatest thinkers of history have believed in a god. I mean some seriously smart people.

I apologize if I have offended you

I like to do thought experiments. That was an open voicing of a thought experiment. A little searching on google indicates others have actually carried out surveys that tend to support that thought experiment.

Dealing with reality in the context of humanity demands that one must often bow out of discussions that can lead to no useful purpose.

This thread was only borderline gun-related when it was new, and has since wandered into some very un-THR territory.

Regretfully closed.
