My friend just called me to inform me he took a new job. This company has been hounding him for about two years to send them a resume. Well he was getting tired of his job and some of the political games being played. So on a whim he sent them his resume. Well he had his third interview yesterday and they want him to come to work for them. Offered him $22K more than he is making now with more responsibility and freedom to make decisions. At the end of the interview after they made the offer he asked to see their employee handbook.
The VP interviewing thought this was odd but got him a copy to thumb through. Well there was the dreaded NO WEAPONS on company property at any time. So he closed the book and says based on the employee rule book I'll have to decline your offer. Needless to say the interviewer was floored by the
revelation. He asked my friend what was the problem. He explained he had a CCW and refused to work anywhere that denied him his right to protect himself while on the job. My buddy would not budge on the issue and made it perfectly clear to this VP of how he felt about his responsibility concerning his own personal safety.
This morning the President of the company called and talked to him about the problem for close to an hour. He said that the company President was willing to give him a WRITTEN waver on the No Weapons policy since he did have a CCW to get him to join the company. My friend told him after he got the waver he would put in his notice at his present company. FYI his present company has no problem with weapons on company property as long as you have a valid CCW. Needless to say he is one very happy guy today. :D

Where in PA and, are they hiring

Project Engineer w/ 20 yrs experience with an eye on a change--------have my CCW and would luv the same opportunity.

Can you give any hints as to his industry and location????!!

Well that put a grin on my face :D . New job, more money, and he has written exclusion from the policy! Not bad, not bad at all.

ScottsGT

He may have plans for just that when he's in a better position inside. He will have more leverage and he now has direct input about it with direct contact with the CEO.

Someone else said it. "SWEET"

Unequal treatment??

Sounds to me like anyone else there would have a valid reason to challenge the rule now. You can't make company policy for only a certain segment of the workers can you? Sounds like discrimination.

That argument won't last 5 minutes. Most companies make you sign the employee manual, indicating that you have read it, understand it, and agree to the terms contained therein.

This guy was bright enough to read it first, and make his stand. That won't help the sheeple who signed on the dotted line -- effectively waiving their right to object to the policy.

It wasn't in the same league as this guy, but I quit a job after a week when they retroactively handed me an employee manual and told me sign. Took it home that night, found the "no firearms" clause, came back the next morning and handed in my resignation.

But, you can say that obviously, if he can carry, and isn't killing everyone, than the logic behind the regulation is flawed, and needs to be reviewed, at which time there will be convincing arguments for carry, perhaps to the point of revising the policy to allow CCW.

Literally "sticking to his guns"!
Arrgh!
You're killing me with this "literally" stuff, Peter. No man of the Lord should torment a man in such ways! :banghead:

Wait. . . are his guns "literally" stuck to him? Like a magnet or an old lollipop?
