Friends of mall shooting suspect arrested on explosive charges

I pulled this off the AP wire this morning at work. I dont' have a link to send you to, but it's an interesting story.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Two friends of a man charged with shooting his way through a crowded shopping mall were arrested after authorities discovered a videotape of them detonating pipe bombs.
The arrests stem from the investigation into the shootings Sunday at Hudson Valley Mall that left two people injured. But Ulster Police Chief Paul Watzka says there's no indication that shooting suspect Robert Bonelli Junior intended to use an explosive device at the mall.
Police searching Bonelli's home after the shooting found a videotape depicting the manufacture and detonation of pipe bombs. The two men arrested were in the videotape along with Bonelli.
Kenneth Stine and Liborio Valguarnera were arrested Monday for violating federal explosive laws related to the possession of a pipe bomb. At a hearing in federal court in Albany today, the judge ordered conditional release for the pair.
The next court date is March 4th.

They video taped themselves making bombs...

It would be nice if all criminals were this dumb.



I imagine it cuts down on the paperwork for the police and makes the prosecutor's job fairly easy too.

Yeah really....like the guy who while stuffing his pockets laid the gun on the counter. Clerk picked up the gun and said you better get out of here, and called the cops......that's not even the best part, he was arrested later when he came back and asked for the gun back!!!

Sometimes....yes sometimes....Stupidity IS Painful!

Yes, I've met several of these gentlemen when they've been delivered to our prison by US Marshals for incarceration prior to trial. When they've been able to get videotape or other self-incriminating evidence from the perps, the Marshals are usually in a very good mood... in fact, I've seen them giggling like schoolgirls! Also, instead of assuring the perps that their stay with us is only temporary, until their court date, and that they're innocent until proven guilty, they tend to be saying things like "Make yourselves at home - after all, this IS your home now!"

Moral of the story: don't videotape yourself doing moronic illegal things for entertainment.

Better yet, don't do the moronic illegal things. Kinda like the kids that videotaped themselves shooting pedestrians, homeless folks, etc. with paintball guns, or the ones videotaping themselves destorying new houses being built. I just don't get what the fascination is of creating a "throw me in jail for a long time" tape of these guys.

I won't mention certain people in Iraq who couldn't resist video taping themselves.

But dumb crooks don't need video tape. There was the guy who entered a fast food shop and cased the place while pretending to apply for a job. When the last customer left, he pulled a gun, ordered the contents of the cash register "to go", and took off. He left the job application form, with his right name and address, on the table.

I also heard of someone robbing a bank.
The comes up and hands the clerk a bag, tells her to fill it with money.
Somewhere along the event the clerk asks the man for ID, and the man obliges.
Sounds pretty far fetched to me...but I wouldn't put the stupidity past anyone.

Got a book recently titled "Stupid Crook Book". One of the stories that stood out was that the FBI said that the number of people who write their bank robbery notes on THEIR OWN DEPOSIT SLIPS averages around 41 a year.
