Frisbees + Shotgun

I was abducted.

I have been isolated with everything going on, seems like I will again now that I have returned. Since I’m on dial-up and have had so much on-line reading to do, well that phone rarely gets used, answered…no telemarketers though.

So what do you do with a box of 7†Frisbee ™ clones with outdated logos and stuff? You abduct Steve and head to the country, with shotguns – that is what you do.

I need to be abducted more often. Isolation is for the birds. School and life stuff cutting into shooting …cutting into living it seems.

I have a new shotgun, been cleaned, been racked…that is all I have done. Don’t know when I’ll get around to what I normally do to one. So no, I didn’t take my new one, no time. Just time to lock up and grab extra mags and ammo for my CCW.

My abductor had planned ahead, she had a plan - a fun plan- she had her shotguns...I can do this.

So I grab the model 42 , this classic was mentioned a few times in various threads and well I had to scratch an itch. I had no idea the “abductor†a lady, would put one Frisbee atop the other and toss…for my first shot this combo, a double - I at least thought I’d get to warm up…oh no. First Frisbee gets nailed the second broke away about the time trigger broke…I did the shotgun squat to hit that low flying sucker. Hey I still got it – surprise!

We had a ball, these were so much fun. No traps, no “set path of flight†just anything goes. Now she called for the Frisbees, I was not allowed…heck I had to hump it at times to keep the gun fed. Something about not wanting me to get old and rusty…some smart comment about being concerned about the later, too late for the first part.

I can still toss a Frisbee, paybacks are hell…I zinged that sucker hard …she never had a chance. Don’t you hate when a female dangles the vehicle keys and it is way too far to walk home?

I played with the M42, 870 Express in 28 ga and the single shots in .410 and 20 ga. She played mostly with the 870 Express in 28 ga and the 20 ga 1100.

Sure we had a mess to clean up unlike clays, we had about 50 of these, and some would fly again. Then we shot our CCW at some stationary on a berm. Well I did try a few in flight using shot loads in 9mm…the 45ACP shot loads are much better…actually hit a few.

Sometimes one needs to shoot the durn thing for fun. Get some sunshine, burn up some ammo, head out for BBQ.

I had to teach her how to “skip†the Frisbee; this emulates a clay being thrown from a portable thrower btw; Great fun and practice folks, something different. I hope she runs across more of these…now that I know how much fun they are.

I really have a bad hankering for a Model 42. Groveling begging, whining didn’t work. She carries CCW so that idea was not an option, besides she is a great shot with shotgun, rifle, and handgun, despite the fact I gave lessons … oh- and I was a “passengerâ€. She even fed me…

She kept all rounds tightly grouped well within 7" at 15 yds using a Commander sized 1911. At 7 yds...one ragged hole, except one 1/2" outside she pulled on first shot from drawing from concealment. That and the vehicle keys...see I didn't have a prayer to steal a M42. ( not that I would, kidding of course).

I’m not only available for adoption, available for abduction as well.

Frisbees:banghead: :banghead:

I never even thought of shooting frisbees!:what:

How could I have ever missed that....

Must be slipping in the old age. Never even occured to me. Frisbees.

Now, where can I get a bunch of cheap frisbees?

Smoke

Smoke, I'm older than you -- get with it. In your defense you probably are sleep depraved with a new young 'un on premise. [Wait I'm sleep depraved and live alone] Sorry no excuses :D

Contact an Ad Agency. You know the folks that do up stuff for businesses, politicians, charities and such?

These were a variety of defunct campaign small town canidates, "Just say no to drugs"...and some promotion for a store that went out about 2years after opening.

"No" will not stop #8.5 shot from a .410 btw Gets all wobbly ,plastic fly off and crashes and burns. :p

Ask around, for stuff like this...hey some day there may be THR Redneck Shoot...if there is a Frisbee stage...one has to be in shape - right?

Why is Correia scheming for the next shoot he has to design stages for? :D

Hey Smoke, check the mesquite trees, is that not where that Obnoxious Chicken appeared from on your range? The one you had to "save the range from? :p

For safety , the "tosser" is behind and to one side. Good practice for doves that appear from behind going away, and various angles.

I recall how well doves treat you . :)

Sounds like a most excellent way to spend a day! With a lass besides!

Hmmm... now you've got me thinking again. Last time I was out at the range, they had gotten some self-healing targets. Plastic, about 1/4" thick or so, and you could shoot at them with anything up through a .44 mag, although .22lr wouldn't get 'em swinging much.

Now, suppose you had some frisbees made up of such a material. Should be good for lots of tiny pellets. The downside is that they wouldn't tend to float in the air as much... probably just fly low and fast (not like that would be bad for training). They also wouldn't show marginal hits very well. Then again, that would help you to make sure that you're getting the target centered in your pattern. I'm thinking that skipping them along like a rabbit SC target would be cool. Even cooler if you could engage it with your CCW (assuming a safe backstop, etc...).

Trapper, I don't see why not.
We expect a report anytime you are ready. :)

One these these days one of my weird hairbrained ideas is gonna make me rich...one of these days.

Growing up we shot any -and everything. [Granted some stuff probably not a good idea today...probably wasn't back then]

Milk Cartons [yeah the waxy cardboard ones] tied and swung from a limb to teach running targets, shotgun, pistol or rifle. [ The glass milk bottles a top a fence...never mind...oops...see what you young folks missed out on?]

We would throw the milk cartons to practice doves and quail. Tin cans same deal, old wheel from a lawnmower for rabbits. Old tire with plyboard inside and rolled to shoot running bouncing targets...like a deer .

I had fun doing competition and all, and at times I miss the "organized" shooting ...but I really get a kick out of the fun aspect of shooting. The skills are still used, practiced and ingrained...the fun factor is different. "Seriously Relaxed"...that make sense?

I did stuff like this with kids...seemed to work. Let the kids shoot that "old fogie music ( a record or 8 track) the parents get to shoot Barney.

Family that shoots together - stays together...or perhaps my version of "family counseling". :D

It is just nice to go out and shoot a shotgun, simple and no doo dads, at fun targets.

That kid of yours ( grin bigger than a pheasant) is about ready for a single shot and a Frisbee...mount that sucker...cheaper than a taxidermist...and you ever tried to glue a clay together ? And by golly a kid will not accept a substitute clay for first hit.

Plenty of tin cans , and such kids have after shooting with me...and by golly no matter how ugly or "out of place" that sucker is ( according to grandma) that target is gonna be displayed.

Try Fisbees (full-sized, I have to admit) with a DA revolver sometime - thrown towards you (but off-axis :what: - safety first & all that).

A hoot & actually doable (usually ... clears throat - mostly, ahem! ... OK, enough to make it interesting anyways)

I really do swear you can hit 'em!

Really.

:D

Want some cheap Frisbees? Buy a pack of the heavy-duty paper plates (10") from Wal-Mart. They fly fairly well - not as good as a real Frisbee, but adequately for a short distance, which is where you want to practice.

c_yeager,
Hmmm my butt...I know how to put those to use. :D

Smoke...there ya go...hurry up now..

[ Dave is shaking his head "where did I go wrong...where did I go wrong...he just sits there...repeating himself] :D

Frisbees +Shotguns is on topic for this forum, nuttin' in Rules of Conduct says I can't share this and give ideas. All the mods and staff have said something to the effect of " the more one uses a firearm the better they become".

Heck I bet Correia is scheming, Denny is probably shaking his head like Dave...but if Correia "builds it - Denny will shoot it". Boy wouldn't Rich just lose it with Denny on a SWAT cover with this idea...:D

After we shoot them can we send them to the Brady Bunch? :p Just my luck they would ban Frisbees...

Hey I take firearms serious , you folks know that...who says one can't fun with firearms. We need a Pro Gun Film of folks having a ball doing this. Like the 2A sisters did with passing out water pistols.

Let me get this semester over ( oh please let me survive) ...I'm a bit rusty with my shooting , I need the practice...I can demonstrate...( no comment on age - okay done been zinged on that already)

What's the Address of PGC...package for Dave McCracken...LOL :D
[darn right I'd do something like this :p ]

Beats the heck out of another mutant-zombie-alien-bear thread - huh?

"Toss... Zing...Bang!"

(Raising coffee cup), Here's to more abductions....

Sounds like a great day. Long ago, Brother and I would sail old 45 RPM records like that across the pasture and take turns having at them with the 16 gauge and 8s. Not to be repeated, some of the ones we didn't shoot were by Billy Holliday amd Jelly Roll Morton. We might have thrown away a small fortune...

I've made a few Frisbee targets by taping together a couple paper saucers.Adds enough weight to get some range.

First off you folks have totally confused Smoke , he is torn between glow in the dark and multi color Frisbees. I like simple - Get both. ;)

Besides I figure some good old boys will get a write up on the invasion of little aliens in little UFO's [ they may have imbibed a few] Smoke will get a reward for preventing a modern day " War of the Worlds" . :D

See the positive and responsible gun ownership here folks?

Yes I too have shot 33 and 45 RPMs...in various colors. [ green , yellow, blue, purple, red] I later, after a Flood and my "albums" were warped, disposed of ZZ Top, Grand Funk, Beatles, Rolling Stones - different artists ...Thank Goodness Seger and Led Zepplin IV survived - only 2 out of I don't know, [ 40?] I lost . :(

Just a lady friend, besides I don't believe her husband would take too kindly to " not letting her get away". I know, I'm an old fashioned fella with morals and ethics. Actually he suggested she contact me.[ they lost my e-mail, too easy to send a snail mail I guess] Lives out of town, this way on business, and the vehicle just happens to have guns - most of the time. Yeah one of them type of folks.

Okie I don't know when we could have this, you better bring the whole 311 family tho'. Smoke is required to bring the model 42.

kudu...that was really good. :p

Trapper is totally confused, reusable targets or Frisbees...I think that handsome boy needs to have some input, I'd respect his "fun factor" input.

With a grin that big...oh yeah...I believe he will steer us all correct.

Weird to hear "toss" instead of "pull" , "pull-it", or "yup". I didn't get to call like I said, like the LaPorte traps...no noise to tip the "bird" being thrown...sneaky like a dove.

"[hic] Yeah Sheriff bunch of them little UFO's [hic] being invaded and all, we were surrounded...hadn't been for old Smoke.[hic] ...should have seen it...that'll teach 'em to mess with Texas" :D

Good thing Lawdog doesn't patrol this neck of the woods.

Family coming in for Easter. Historically rounds of informal trap are shot. May be a new twist this year.

Smoke

We have to invite LawDog.

Heck I might "need" a friendly officer in that neck of the woods...dunno where you two are exactly...never hurts to have folks in places when traveling thru'.

[As I am escorted thru LawDog's jurisdiction and told don't stop till you reach Smoke's place.]

Besides with LawDog we "might" not get into trouble. Not to mention any write up LawDog does is sure to be funny as hell.

Hey this could be the start of something new.

Gotta admit, whole bunch less smelly and messy than "Cow chip tossing"...'sides them chips don't always, "toss"... not far enough anyway.

[ I may or may not have participated in such activities...I do know bulls can get up a head of steam right quick tho'...and them fences sure looks thin when diving thru 'em]

Fund Raiser for RKBA down your way. RC and a Moon pie says this would attract folks ... Incorporate in a fun shoot with kids and all...

Just had a terrible thought about this whole thing...

MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE DOGS IN THE TRUCK!!!!!

Frisbees are a good idea. I think I read somewhere about some folks throwing potatoes in the air and shooting at them, too. That sounds like fun.

Years ago, in the early 80s, I remember seeing in a Magnum PI episode (of all things), Magnum shooting a radio controlled airplane with a shotgun, being flown by Higgens. Always thought that would be some kind of fun, to have someone intentionally trying to evade your shots with a radio controlled airplane. Of course, it would be astronomically expensive...

Steve

I know a member that has Radio Control

P95carry...Hey Chris...have we got a deal for you...bring your RCP ( and leave your CCW in the car)...You are cordially invited to a "little gathering". :neener:

Skeet was used to teach aieral (sp?) ...oh phooey...to shoot planes...them guys ( sorry I'm brain dead)

Chris this is your stage "RCP VS SHOT...( Radio vs Mechanical) I wanna go first...somebody do the flight dealie with the flags...( just my luck Chris has itty bitty guns that shot back) :D

Last time I saw an RC plane getting shot at, the shooters were using an M163 Vulcan. I hear that reloading for that gets a little pricey, and the selection of factory ammo at Gander Mountain is pretty slim. ;)

Anti-aircraft 870! Now that would be fun!

Maybe we'll start on those cheap balsa wood planes with the wind up propellers.....need a calm day.....kid can be the pilot.....need to work up some different sized shot loads....time to go to the toy store....might be other kinds of planes too!

sm, see what you started....frisbees, planes, where will it all end?

:D Smoke:D
