I don't understand after the paperwork issue fell under the microscope of the BATFE that they simply didn't do it properly. Why wouldn't they have just do things properly or are these old issues that are being used to close them down?

The BATFE tried for nine years to get them to do the job right. Sorry, there is no excuse for the negligence. They could have trained somebody to keep the records.

The ATF said the store failed to document the sales of more than 1,000 guns and a handful of background checks and instances of multiple firearms sales, and did not complete other required paperwork. ATF agents helped set up a spreadsheet to track sales but said the store did not follow through.

Seems like they have had a lot of chances to screw things up.

I have two thoughts.

1.) Yea, the store was negligent and SHOULD have kept up the paperwork. Like it or not, it is the law.

2.) How the *&&$@#+ did we manage to survive as a nation in the decades prior to the existance of the BATF and all these gun control laws that require all this paperwork?????? And if it is all so wonderful and prevents criminals from getting guns, why are many politicians continually whining for more and more gun control laws and bans???:scrutiny::scrutiny::scrutiny::scrutiny::scrutiny:

I think that when they go this far to help a LGS owner, there really isn't much excuse for not getting it right.

The 3 FFLs that I utilize have always told me that the local ATF agents have been very helpful and understanding about small lapses in paperwork

If the article is correct everyone except the owner has bent over backwards to get the shop up to speed. It's hard to feel to sorry for a business owner, or anyone else who will not work to help themselves.

Dang. That makes the ATF look extremely soft and lenient. That is not at all their actual reputation of course.

Actually, it is...

How many times have we heard about them closing down a gun store only to find out they gave the owners multiple chances? It seems to be the norm when they bust a gun store. Almost every one I can remember came down to the gun store owner being an idiot.

JoeJoeshooter wrote that Gun city had "very limited inventory, seedy employees and extremely high prices". Wow how things have changed in a couple of years. They used to have rack upon rack of guns along the walls and long cases full of revolvers and pistols. Seedy employees? The ones I knew were in the medical field as x-ray techs, lab techs who worked there part time for extra cash. It sounds like the inability to keep records is a management problem. Yeah they always did ask top dollar. Whenever I stayed in town, I would go and use the range. It is/was a dungeon, but $15/day was reasonable.

? Actually, none. This is the first time Ive even heard of them closing down a store. But then again im not that old. Point Im trying to make. It must happen very, very rarely?

It must happen very, very rarely?

I've known 3 in town...one was stupid (like the OP), one was arrogant (claims he just didn't understand) and one was unfortunate (employee was very bad...store closed voluntarily to close further investigation)

I stopped by there when visiting the in-laws back during the summer. It was my first time there and I was not impressed. They had NO selection, the place was a dump, the staff was borderline rude, and the prices were horrible. I usually hate to hear about gun stores closing but from my very limited exposure I don't see that we are losing much.
