Another thread was running recently that asked what the next Federal anti-gun shoe to drop was going to be. Some opined we should be more concerned with local anti-gun action. Looks like those were accurate concerns.

This article published in "The Tennessean" reports that Tennessee will not allow future gun shows in the State owned fairgrounds. Here is the link to the article: http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/davidson%20/2015/12/01/metro-halts-gun-shows-nashville-fairgrounds/76609946/

Earlier this year I reported about an emergency ordinance passed by the City of Columbia that banned all "weapons" within 250 feet of the Statehouse grounds. Many shrugged that off as inconsequential as it was temporary. I think it was a test, a dry run if you will to see if anyone pushed back. And no one did. It looks like local and state is the next battleground, not Federal.

until operators of the events accept new rules.

Citing three recent criminal cases in Nashville that link guns purchased at the fairgrounds to felons, the Metro Board of Fair Commissioners voted 3-0, with one member abstaining, to terminate future gun shows at the fairgrounds after fulfilling any existing contracts with show operators.

The fair board would later adopt new safety measures and other rules to govern any future gun shows at the fairgrounds before deciding whether to continue hosting such events.

Background checks on all purchases or trades is what I was told by a vendor that had been there the week before. Since this is a lease condition issue that will run afoul of the preemption law it probably won't stand a challenge.

Similar was tried here in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Rather than State it was the County Fairgrounds. The county commissioners simply informed the fairgrounds they would not lease out the buildings for Gun Shows. The Cuyahoga County Gun Show is one of the largest in the state with about 1,000 tables in 3 large buildings.

The show's promoter Dick Walters a long time friend sued the county and won. Very expensive lesson for the then commissioners. That was some years ago but on the bright side one of those 3 commissioners is currently serving 20+ years on corruption convictions. :) Unrelated but humorous.

A small short link on the story:

Again, this was not State but County.

More details have emerged.

The board (lead by Metro Fair Board chairman Ned Horton) that manages the fairgrounds made this decision on their own and they're getting lots of heat over it. Horton said they didn't consult with the current mayor (Horton and the other board members were all appointed by the previous mayor). The current mayor has said that the city legal department is looking into the legality of the decision by the board. Metro Council will be considering a vote on a non binding motion for the Fair Board to reverse their decision.

Tennessean said:
The Metro Council will soon have its say on the fair board’s controversial move to halt gun shows at the Metro-owned Fairgrounds Nashville.

A resolution filed Friday by Councilman Steve Glover would request that the five-member Metro Board of Fair Commissioners overturn its action taken Tuesday to terminate gun shows at the fairgrounds after the completion of existing contracts.

The council will take up the resolution Dec. 15. It comes as Mayor Megan Barry hasn't revealed a position on the board's decision other than having legal questions she wants answered.

Mayor Megan Barry has legal questions on halting fairgrounds gun shows

If the resolution is approved, the council also would be on record asking that the board take necessary action to allow the continued operation of gun shows. The resolution goes on to request that if the fair board does halt future gun shows — “and thereby place Metro in jeopardy of financial loss” — then Metro should withhold all capital funds and operational supplemental funding for the fairgrounds.

As a nonbinding resolution, it would simply request these actions as opposed to automatically triggering them. Nevertheless, if approved by the council, the resolution could apply pressure for the board to change course.

“This is the first step,” said Glover, who has argued that the fair board’s vote may have violated a host of laws and could result in Metro spending millions to defend itself in court. “And then hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and then everything will be fixed.”

In addition to Glover, the resolution has co-sponsor support from council members Larry Hagar, Robert Swope and Sheri Weiner.

The Columbia temporary ban DID receive pushback as it was recinded by city council within 24 hours of it passing.

I have friends in Nashville who tell me this gun show ban isn't going to last in Nashville.
It will be rescinded.

It was only a temporary ban in the first place until the issue was decided at upcoming meetings of the fair board.

Hopefully the ban is removed. There are various things wrong with many gun shows I'm sure, but the overall ignorance of how they're ran is crazy.
