Hey guys, been away from the forums for a while and haven't made any purchases recently.....

Thinking about going to check out an Olympic Arms AR that is for sale used at a local gun shop. The price seems decent for a local deal. From looking at the pictures on the shop's site and comparing them to the Olympic Arms site, it looks like a GI-16?

Here is the actual gun, now that I am looking at it, is these even an M16? Looks like a longer barrel?

I am new to ARs and basically trying to get into an AR-type rifle as cheap as possible. This one already has front and rear sites, but how hard is it to add a forward pistol grip?

I used to be into AKs but want to try an AR now. My brother in law just picked up a Windham Weaponry AR (made about 20 minutes from my house) and it reminded me that I really need an AR!

No, not in the least. The description on the link you provide states semi-automatic. It's just their version of a standard AR-15 sporting rifle.

Forward grips are easy. You can put a small rail on the front and hook one right on. Should be able to do it with a basic set up for around $30. If you want to spend a bit more, you can get handguards that have rails already on them.

For the $650 they are asking, you can get a much nicer rifle than an Olympic. You should be looking at a rifle from PSA or Smith & Wesson.
