I just bought a rifle that came with mounts. When it showed up to my ffl and I inspected it the front screw had been broken off in the hole. What size tap do I need to find?

If anyone has any other tricks to the trade they would be appreciated.

Thanks

the most common is

6-48, fairly easy to find.

For a broken screw, if you hve a drill press that has reverse, get a left hended drill, but not carbide, when drilling out a screw at some point the drill will grab into the screw, at this point a left hand drill will turn the remains of the screw right out of the hole, this is the point carbide like to break also.

If you were fairly centered in the screw the hole is ready for the next screw you won't even need to retap the threads!

8-40 is a possability, also.
